Henry Van Hoecke Obituary

February 6, 1922 - July 24, 2006 Henry Van Hoecke, 84, of Sun City West, Arizona, beloved great-grandfather, grandfather, husband, father, brother, uncle and cousin, died on July 24, 2006. Henry died peacefully in Arizona at the Odyssey Hospice House from lung cancer. Henry was born on February 6, 1922 in Kansas City, Missouri to Augusta (Landuyt) Van Hoecke and John Van Hoecke. Henry grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, served proudly and with honor in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 19421946. He continued his education after military service and graduated from the Kansas City Sheet Metal Apprentice Local #2 in 1950. He had a distinguished career in the Sheet Metal trade for 36 years with Troug-Nichols and then as a partner of EMC Environmental Mechanical Contractors from 1978-1988. Henry cherished many long lasting friendships throughout his life and career in Kansas City before moving to Sun City West, Arizona in 1994. Henry was a faithful and devoted member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic church. Henry is a past Grand Knight of council #4387 and District Deputy of the western district of Missouri and a 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus. Henry enjoyed spending time fishing, gardening, playing bridge, poker and cribbage. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Hazel Van Hoecke, sons; John Van Hoecke, James (Patricia) Van Hoecke, Cyril (Julie) Van Hoecke, Robert (Lisa) Van Hoecke and daughters; Anne (John) Becknell, Cathy (Chris) Beeler, 20 grand-children, 17 great-grand-children. Henry is also survived by his brothers; Albert Van Hoecke and Joseph (Linda) Van Hoecke, sister; Elsie Litle and brother-in-law; Eugene Wiley and many other dear friends and family members. Henry was preceded in death by his brothers Cyril and Remy, sister Mary Wiley, mother, Augusta and father, John. A Rosary will be held at the Prince of Peace Chapel 14818 W. Deer Valley Dr., Sun City West on August 4, 2006 at 5:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 19002 N 128th Ave., Sun City West on August 5, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. with a luncheon immediately following the service. A memorial service will be held at Saint Catherine's of Siena, 4101 E. 105th Terrace, Kansas City, Missouri on August 12, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. with a luncheon immediately following the service. The family would like to give special thanks for the extraordinary care given to Henry by the Odyssey Hospice House in Peoria, AZ. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations that will be used to refurbish and enhance the Odyssey Hospice Center where Henry and his family were so wonderfully cared for. To ensure these funds are appropriated correctly please send your donations to Henry's daughter Anne Becknell, 21086 Colony Court, Torrance, California 90503.

Hazel:

My last impression of Henry is a man who was a devoted husband and father. He was a advocate for his church, and he loved to talk about the Sheet Metal business. Above all, Henry was a man full of integrity and honesty.

We will all miss his wit and sense of humor.
