JAMES "FRED" BENSON

Fred Benson of Prairie Village, KS passed away on Wednesday, February 16th surrounded by his two daughters thus ending his year and a half battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 22nd at the Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS where friends may call from 10 - 10:45 am. Fred was born March 11, 1936 in Kansas City, MO and had lived in the Kansas City area for all of his life. He was a graduate of Kansas State University with a bachelor degree in business administration and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He served in active duty with the National Guard immediately following his graduation. Fred spent the bulk of his career years in pharmaceutical sales with Smith Kline & French and Eli Lilly. He was employed by General Electric for the last 15 years until the time of his death. Fred is survived by his two daughters, Julie Wendlandt, OP, KS and Amy Benson Kitt, Toronto, Canada and 4 grandchildren, Blair Wendlandt, Harrison Wendlandt, Bennett Wendlandt and Will Kitt. He will be remembered as a person who loved his family, football, a great conversation and a good joke.
