I still remember seeing his byline in the Kansas City Star quite often. Then, when I started following jimmycsays.com more recently, anytime I would post a comment or question, he would always answer. Through one of his posts, I found out that he was a friend of our longtime neighbor, Tom Russell. I was really hoping to get to meet him in person some day, but alas, it wasn´t meant to be. You and your family are in my prayers.

I just wanted to pass along my sympathies to the family and my gratitude for Jim's writings. We are KC ex-pats in Florida and I enjoyed very much reading his stories about our former home city. Here's to a life well lived.

Fitz and I worked together at in the news room and City Hall and his laugh always made me laugh!
Fitz befriended me at eighteen when some of colleagues shied away until I was a little older.
Along with a couple others from 1729 Grand, we had so much fun!
I have always been so fortunate for so many things Fitz taught me!
I read him before we met in 1979 and I read him after his retirement.
I love Jim.
Prayers and condolences.

It was a great privilege for me to work with Jim at the Kansas City Star and to have him for a friend. I love the anecdote about him singing "Workin' in a Coal Mine" in the elevator at Chicago's Museum of Science & Industry" - it is emblematic of his good humor. He was and is an inspiration.

Brooks, your dad was such a guy. Knowing you and Charlie he was an exceptional dad and sounds like an all around gem of a friend. My heart is with you all and hoping you find comfort in joyful memories. All my love.

Jim Fitz, as we would lovingly refer to him, was truly all about Kansas City . We shared several paths , which included sharing efforts for Jim Glover when he ran for Mayor, same with Mike Burke (who sadly passed shortly after Fitz.
Fitz was direct and wrote an excellent blog , and was always about making KC a better place to live and play.
I am saddened about Jim's passing, and sorry we never got to golf together, especially in Florida.
To Patty ,Brooks and Charlie, we so admired your Husband/Father.
He left an impact in making Kansas City a world class City to live in.
Sandy and I are so sorry to miss the celebration of Jim's life next week.
We will say a prayer of life, and I plan to hit a golf ball in his honor.
Blessing and warm thoughts,
Bob and Sandy Mayer

Jim Fitz as I liked to call him was indeed a Renaissance Man. Every thing described in obit is how I forever remember him.
As of late from the past work we shared with Jim Glover and Mike Burke campaigns for Mayor of past, being Area Election Judges in past elections - Jim was always enthusiastic and witty.
We shared the banter of Kansas City news and events.
Sandy and I will be forever grateful for knowing Jim and Patty.
Jim may have grew up in Louisville area, but he a Kansas Citian of the highest degree!
Rest in Peace Jim, knowing that are the better for knowing you!
So sorry we will be in FLorida for your
Life Celebration, but I will hit a golf ball in your honor.

Such a beautiful tribute to Jim - it captures him so well. I enjoyed getting to work with him on the Meyer Fountain restoration project and remember when he joined The Times. I was on the society desk at The Star at the time. Condolences to his family, whom he loved dearly. Anyone who knew him for five minutes knee that about him, if nothing else!
