Hello.

I send my condolences to the family of a fallen comrade. As a postal employee, I know how the job can keep us from the family. Even when we are home, we still talk about work. I just hope that your husband, father, son, or best friend had the opportunity to a wonderful family life! To all of us ... let this be our motto; "Life is short ...Do all you and do and Be all you can be right where you are today." May God Bless, guide, keep and give peace to your hearts! Josephine

I had the pleasure of knowing Jim because I've been Stacy's friend since we were small. I had just begun to know him as a person rather than just "Stacy's dad," but I know that nothing meant more to him than his daughters and grandchildren. He was a great man who always knew how to have a laugh. It's a shame he had to go so soon. Hang in there, Stacy! He left a lot of love in your heart.

God hath not promised, skies always blue. Flower strewn pathways, all our lives through.

God hath not promised, sun without rain. Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.

But God HATH promised, strength for the day. Rest for the weary, light on the way.

Grace for the trial, help from above. Unfailing sympathy, undying love.

Anything we could say ... just wouldn't seem enough. God bless and keep you and yours during this tragic time. May the miracle of Christ's birth warm you this holiday season, and always.

I did not know Jim personally, but I am one of his 300,000 Brothers that work as a carrier for the Postal Service. I am a friend of Hayley Price, Mr.Fussell's niece. I never knew Mr.Fussell personally, but the way Hayley spoke of her family let me know how important they are to her. At times like these family is all that matters, you come together in ways that would not have been possible any other way. I know that people always say this, but God truly has a plan for everyone. Things aren't always as they seem. I pray that the Fussell family is comforted throughout this time and may God's love grab hold of their hearts and minds at a time when the heart is grieving and the mind is tired. The family will remain in my prayers.

Betty Barnes

December 6, 2002

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the entire Fussell family. Jim was my mail carrier for a long time, he wasn't a talker, but he always made time to give my children his used rubber bands for their rubber band balls. I regret not making more time to know him better. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

It was a late september day in 1976, I was drinking a coke in the thrid floor break room at the big house, sitting alone, minding my own business, when a guy who was destinted to be a great influence on my life strolled up and asked if I wanted to go out with him and a couple of guys after work. Thats how I met Jim after two weeks at the PO, he had decided I was someone to know. It was like I had found a long lost brother, and we became great friend's over the years. It seems like we were always together when something great happened to us or our kids, or when something tragic happened and we were their to help pick up the pieces. Fu always told me he would lead my way into retirement. I know this is not what he meant. Kathy, Stacy, you know Josie and I are always here for you. We always have been and we always will be. We will be there on Saturday. We miss him terribly, I can only hope he has tracked down the doo-dah man.

Lucy A. Arnone

December 6, 2002

To the Fussell Family: I never even knew his name until this week but every day he walked up my driveway to deliver my mail. He never said much maybe a "hi" or mention of the weather. If I had a question about mailing something I would follow him down my driveway because he never stopped walking. He was a hard worker. My brother was also in Vietnam in Special Forces, I wish I would have spoke to him a little more but he was always on the move. I was very sad to hear about the accident. I will miss seeing him coming up my drive everyday to deliver my mail. My Thought's & Prayer's go out to his family.

December 6, 2002

Please accept my deepest sympathy in the loss of Jim. As a PTF City Carrier in the Raytown Post Office, I met Jim shortly after I started in February. I consider myself blessed to have known Jim these past few months, and I am honored and pleased to have considered him a friend and a brother. Thanks to Jim, every cloudy, drizzly, dark, dank day will forever more be known as "a sunny day in 'Nam," to many of us who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. Monday night, I watched the Vietnam movie, "We Were Soldiers." It's message moved me to thank Jim, personally, Tuesday morning for his service in the war and the sacrifices he and his fellow veterans had made for "the rest of us." I will forever cherish that moment and every memory of your dear Jim. I look forward to the day that we will all see him again in God's kingdom. May God bless you all.--Steve Edmondson
