James D. "Jim" Hayes
January 21, 1934 - August 1, 2023
Kansas City, Kansas - James D. "Jim" Hayes of Kansas City, Kansas passed into heaven on August 1st at Shawnee Mission Hospital. Jim was born on January 21, 1934, in Kansas City, Kansas where he has lived all his life. He attended Turner elementary and Turner high school, graduating in 1953. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Dill, in October 1953 and was married until her death in February of 2009. Jim was a carpenter for 32 years, employed by the KCK School Dist. #500. He was known as the "blind man", as he repaired all the blinds in the schools. Jim was a member of Carpenter's Local 168, Ben Hur Masonic Lodge, and Scottish Rite. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Annis Hayes, 2 brothers Harold Jr. and Robert Hayes, and his wife, Barbara. He is survived by his sister, Joanne Irick; his companion of 12 years, Virginia Berberick; daughter Lori Bond (Joe); son James B. (Brad) Hayes; grandson, Michael Escareno (Jamie); two granddaughters, Samantha Hendry (Derek) and Megan Bond; six great-grandchildren, Alexiana Escareno, Jesse Escareno, Brent Hernandez, Brooke Bond, Amy Helm, and Ayden Thebo, and numerous friends who will miss him greatly. A visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 PM Monday, August 7, 2023, at the Maple Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at Maple Hill with burial following in the Maple Hill Cemetery.
