JAMES SIMMONS Obituary

SIMMONS James "Jim" Boyd Simmons, a man of generous spirit and an unbridled zest for life, passed away July 8, 2016 in Chicago. Born October 2, 1944 in Leavenworth, Kansas to Louise and Jack Simmons, Jim grew up in Coffeyville, Kansas. At William Jewell College he joined Sigma Nu while earning his BA. Jim became a cash beef broker in Chicago, then a pit trader at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. He retired to Florida when not globe trotting with great friends. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Shannon Simmons, his daughter and son-in-law, Erin and Mike Montgomery, his grandchildren, Mayla and Asher Montgomery, his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Bob Keim, cousins, Kathryn Luhe and Christine Hejinian, and countless friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Linda Pope, and niece and nephew Jackie and Rob Keim. While we grieve his passing, always remember what Jim would say and smile: Some Days Are Just Better Than Others! In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made payable to the James L. and James B. Simmons Charitable Foundation and sent to Greater Horizons, 1055 Broadway Blvd., Suite 130, Kansas City, MO 64105.

I'm sorry for the passing of Jim. In 1966 Jim was my resident dorm director at WJC. Alot has happened in all those years. I'm thinking that Jim was studing law at the time and driving a red Pontiac convertible GTO. In all those years i remember Jim and our brief encounter. I have fond memories of WJC and jim.

Jim and I were friends at William Jewell. His room was right next door to mine. He graduated and I flunked out. He was in my wedding in Ohio. We had lost of memories during my two years at Jewell. Sorry for your loss. But the obit comment about some days are better than others is truly Jim. God bless. [email protected]
