PATRICIA CRAWFORD Obituary

Patricia Joan Crawford (Paul) passed away December 22, 2010, during an emergency procedure at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. She was born May 18, 1939, at St. Lukes Hospital to Mary Paul (Minor) and Perry Paul. She graduated from Southwest High School and attended Kansas University and Draughons Business College. The University of Kansas is a very special place for our family. While at KU, Pat met and fell in love with the love of her life, Loyd Crawford, who she married September 10, 1960, at the Village Church, and most recently celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary at St. Petersburg, Florida. Pat was employed by the Edward W. Tanner Architectural Firm where she was a private secretary to Mr. Tanner. Later she served as market researcher for the Maritz Company. Her prime jobs over the years were "Housewife and Mom" two titles at which she excelled and wore with pride. She was a devoted wife and partner, a loving, doting mother and grandmother "Nana" and a caring and compassionate friend. She attended every activity her children were ever in and, in her later years, attended most every activity in which her grandchildren were involved. In addition to her husband, survivors include: children, Kim Crawford, Denver,CO; Dr. Kevin Crawford and wife Linda, Overland Park, KS; Kamala Laurenzo, and husband Joe, Olathe, KS; grandchildren, Tiffany Dinklage, Westminister, CO, Alicia and Paul Laurenzo, Olathe, KS, and Austin and Luke Crawford, Overland Park, KS, Sisters-in-law, Norma Molle, Jan Crawford, and Brother-in-law, Raymond Crawford; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews and many friends from the neighborhood, Southwest High School, and work associates. She was loved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Mount Moriah & Freeman Chapel. Services celebrating Pat's life will be held Thursday 2 p.m. at the Village Presbyterian Church with a private burial at Mount Moriah. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association or Shawnee Mission Hospital. Mt Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home. 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO 64131. We were so sad to hear of Pat's passing. We had just arrived in Austin that day to visit Marti & family. She had just seen the note on facebook from Kevin. Made me think of when the Jayhawks won in 1988, we were both wondering who we could cheer with, had we only known we were each standing in our doorways. You were a very good neighbor even though we didnt see each other often due to my difficulties getting around. Our lives pass only too quickly but I know you are in heaven, could not be anywhere else. Our prayers are with your family. Our sympathies,

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Dear Pat, I was pleased to see the photo in yesterday's paper showed your warm, beautiful smile and hinted at your wonderful laugh. It reminds me of the cell phone call you made to me earlier in the fall while you and Lloyd were in the car and close to home. You wanted to tell me that you and Lloyd had seen the strange, nearly hairless, coyote-like animal I had described a couple of weeks earlier. I was afraid everyone would think I was loony! You called and we laughed! I had looked forward to tea and a chat early in the new year. Sadly that will not happen, but I will think of you often as I have a cup of soothing tea and how your smile and laughter could brighten any day. Thanks for your friendship, my dear neighbor! Love, Gayle

Dear Pat, You have been my sister for almost 49 years and I shall never forget the wonderful times we have had. The thing about you is that you were always joyful; I never saw you grouchy or upset.
Until we meet again in heaven, I will just say that I love you.

Words cannot express how sad I was to hear of Pat's passing. Though I haven't had the opportunity to share her company much over the years, I have known Pat my entire life, and as one of my mother's dearest lifelong friends, I remember her as always being very kind and sweet. My thoughts and best wishes go out to Pat's friends and family.

Mom, you are a special mother entrenched in my heart forever. Thank you for loving your family with all your heart and soul. Thank you for being a mom that was "always there" for us and your grandchildren. You have touched so many lives as you made the world a better place. Thank you for showing all of us the true meaning of marriage. Your fifty years of a loving marriage to dad was truly special. Losing you is so hard but I know you want us to carry forth all the good and beautiful things you have instilled in us. I will will always love you mom. Thank you.

Here is a quote that I know you believed in:

"Life is a precious gift, love is a wonderful gift and laughter is a wonderful gift, so love life to the fullest, live with all your heart & laugh as much as you breathe".
