John Barth Obituary

John Gordon Barth

November 18, 1932 - January 27, 2025

Chesterfield , Missouri - John Gordon Barth passed away on Monday, January 27th, 2025 peacefully in the presence of his children.

John was born in Kansas City, MO on November 18th, 1932 to Dorothy Gordon Barth and Jack Barth. His consistent stream of love, service, generosity and gratitude contributed to many lives and created community at every touch point of his life. John lived in the Westport area of Kansas City for all of his elementary and high school years attending Rollins Elementary and later Westport High School. He attended Calvary Baptist Church where he met the love of his life Joan (Joanie Girl) Pryor Barth. John and Joan were married for over 64 years and were the proud parents of four children; Stephen, Julia, Charles (Chuck) and Jane.

John graduated from William Jewell College where he earned degrees in Chemistry and Physics and was honored with the Alexander Doniphan Award. After graduation from Jewell, John attended Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY and earned his Master of Divinity degree. John then went on to hold pastoral positions at Cairo Baptist Church, Cairo, MO and First Baptist Church in Lamar, MO. John and family moved back to Kansas City in 1965 to serve as Director of Alumni Relations for his alma mater, William Jewell College. John moved into Corporate America as a sales executive and later as a Systems Engineer for IBM. John served IBM for over 23 years and retired in Saint Louis where he resided for the remainder of his life.

As an active member of Delmar Baptist Church (now Dayspring Baptist) since 1975 where he served in many capacities, John was known by the congregation for his brilliant mind and ability to remember every detail about people he met, if only one time; his compassionate manner; and his willingness to serve in whatever role was required. He was a steadfast pillar of the congregation offering service and leadership for over 50 years.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Pryor Barth, his father, mother and brother, Edgar Barth. He is survived by children: Stephen and wife (June), Julia and husband (Michael), Charles and Jane; his brother-in-law, Fred H. Pryor and wife (Jami), sister-in-law, Diane Bashor and husband (Terry) and sister-in-law, Carol Pryor; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

The family specifically asks that you do not send flowers. All donations will be directed toward the enhancement and operation of the Joan and John Barth Pavilion at Dayspring Baptist Church. Memorial gifts may be made to Dayspring Baptist Church and designated for the Joan Pryor Barth and John Barth Memorial Fund at Dayspring Baptist Church, 1001 Municipal Center Drive, Town and Country, MO 63131.

Visitation and a memorial service will take place at Dayspring Baptist Church, 1001 Municipal Center Drive, Town and Country, MO on March 8th, 2025 at 11:00 AM with lunch being served afterwards.

I worked with John at IBM during the 80's. He was a sincere, gracious man and over the years I've thought of him. He was always so complimentary of Joanie.

I had not seen either John or Joan since Graduation Day, but my memories of them are that they were genuinely nice. We should all be so lucky as to be remembered that way. CDR James Granger USCG (Ret) WHS `49

I´m so sorry for your loss. I am praying for you all. May God give you comfort during this very difficult time. Please know that your loved one is safe in God´s memory (Proverbs 14:14,15). Just as God brought his son Jesus Christ back to life, he will do the same for your loved one as he has promised.
