John Leo DeVolder

John Leo DeVolder, 85, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away September 1, 2007 at the Kansas City Hospice House after a courageous year long battle with cancer. He was born April 15, 1922 in Kansas City, Mo. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII serving as an Electrician Mate and was stationed in New Guinea for 2 years. After returning, John was employed by TWA as a Lead Mechanic and retired in 1984 after 38 years. He was an avid gardener in which he took great pride. He loved bowling, fishing hunting and could throw a good game of horseshoes. He was a member and officer of the Wyandotte County Protective Society and the Shawnee American Legion. He loved playing Bean and Pitch with his friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and Sisters; Julia, Margaret, Bertha and Jenny and a Brother; Frank. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Harriett of the home and one brother Elmer Bryon of Bella Vista, Ar. Son; John R. DeVolder, Lake of the Ozarks, Daughter; Trudy Richardson and husband Bob, Shawnee, Ks. Grandchildren: Rick Richardson, Basehor, Ks., Shelly Whidby and husband Dan, Gardendale, Al., Dana Reynolds and husband Justin, Ottawa, Ks. and Bobbi Richardson, Shawnee, Ks. Great Grandchildren: James and Emma Whidby and Wyatt Reynolds. Visitation will be at 12:00 Noon Wed. at Maple Hill Funeral Home with services starting at 1:00 PM, Burial in Maple Hill Cemetery.
