John Kessinger Obituary

John Thomas Kessinger III, 63, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away July 3, 2009. John was born Dec. 14, 1945 in Long Beach, Calif. He attended Southeast High School, (1960-1964), transferred to Ruskin High School in K.C., Mo., and graduated in 1965. John was a U.S. Navy and Vietnam vet, after which he attended Longview Community College, K.C., Mo. John began his dream of being a custom paint designer/painter of motorcycles, vans and autos in the early 1970s and started "Jhon's Custom Paints". He remained at the top of his field in the Midwest for over 37 years, and many customers would wait up to a year just to get a "Jhon" custom paint job. He was honored for his work in many national magazines and rewarded by the hundreds of awards given to the owners of the cycles, vans and autos with his paint work at shows throughout the U.S. He is survived by his wife Karen, his father John Thomas Kessinger II, his mother Ruth Carpenter, his son John Thomas Kessinger IV, two half brothers, a half sister, nephews, nieces and many loving, close friends. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, July 19 from 3 to 9:00 p.m. at Wabash BBQ Inn, 646 So. Kansas City Ave., Excelsior Springs, Mo. 64024 (next to The Elms). If you have a custom paint job by "Jhon", please drive or ride it and let it shine for John. (Arr. Brian, 816-835- 2988)

I was a friend of John's when he attended Southeast High. In fact I had a real crush on him. When I last saw him Johnny was a little boy, about 3. His time on this earth was to short but he left a mark. I am proud to have known him.

Brother John,
While dozing off the other day I dreamt you had died. I woke filled with awful dread until I realized it was only a disturbing dream. Ecstatic feelings of joy replaced the dread. Immediately I realize you really are gone. John, this has hit me harder than Missouri black top in November leaving deep scars. You left me with eternal scars of memories. I learned so much from you and did my best to do as you in daily encounters. I can think of no other I would emulate so quickly without any reservations. John you have an old Soul who has made the trip many times. So until we hook up again I will be missing your company. If at the front gates of Peter, get out the car and go in, He is probably wondering what your waiting for. You are the best John: a Great Brother, Friend, Painter, the list goes on.

Johnny,
I was there when you were born; three years old then. I was the first of Grandma Marry's grand children and you the second. We took our first trip together from KC,Mo.to San Pedro CA. Guess I was maybe five or six then. Took three days, no freeways. I regret we never saw each other after you joined the Navy and we only talked a few times on the phone. It's sad for me to think we can never speak to eachother in this life however God willing we can in heaven. Your cousin Vern Kessinger (Butch)

john, we shared so many laughs, beers and tears, you will never be gone. You will live large in my heart and soul. I have never known a day without you in my life and I will continue our conversations as though you were here. The conversation my be a little one sideded so you can jump in any time. You were loved by many and I suppose that is the biggest bragging right one can achieve. Your art reflected your creative genius and your life reflected your tender soul. I'm sure there is a mansion for you in your new home, save me a room. With love, your little brother Rick Kessinger
