JOSEPH GRANVILLE Obituary

Joseph E. Granville, age 90, of Kansas City, MO, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2013, at St. Lukes Hospice House, after a brief illness, with his beloved wife Karen by his side. He was born on August 20, 1923, in Yonkers, NY, the son of Washington Irving Granville and Dorothy Dartmouth (Crehore) Granville. Joe graduated from Todd School and Duke University. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Navy. Joe was founder and president of the Granville Market Letter, Inc. On May 4, 1981, he was married to Karen Erickson. Joe was a remarkable impresario of all that is Wall Street for over 50 years. He wrote 19 books and headlined both at Caesar's Palace and to a packed house at Carnegie Hall as he colorfully explained his investment theories sprinkled with humor and homespun philosophy. Joe preached his stock market doctrine from the pulpit of the Crystal Cathedral and even played in the Bob Hope Desert Classic golf tournament despite the fact that he could not golf! That was Joe, always irrepressible not knowing the meaning of the word "can't". For the past 32 years Joe and Karen have lived in Kansas City, MO, currently at the San Francisco Tower where they have become an institution as great and loving neighbors, always at the ready to babysit pets or hand deliver flowers to celebrate life events. Survivors include his wife, Karen; children; Lesile Joan Granville, Blanchard Irving Granville, Leonia Granville Weissman, Mary Beth Granville, Johanna Cushing Granville, John Hallock Granville, 15 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, Michael Margolis, Dr. Jerry Blythe, Kerry and Kevin Freeman, Don and Judy Applegate. He was predeceased by his brother, William, his son, Paul Granville and daughter, Sara Granville Smith. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 14, 2013, at the San Francisco Tower, 2510 Grand Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64108, with Pastor Bob Spradling of the Maywood Baptist Church, officiating. Anyone wishing to share a memory of Joe, or add to his online memorial, may go to www.applegateandday.com on the Internet. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland SPCA. 5428 NE Antioch Rd., Kansas City, MO 64119

To Mrs. Karen Granville and Family, My sincere sympathy to you and your family.Just recently I spoke to you and Joe on ordering The Stock Market Teacher and technical questions and he was sharp as a tack on his answer. We all lost a true great person and he will surely be missed in the investment community. I will continue my studies on his system and he will not be forgotten for all he has done to be a Great Teacher for so many. God Bless Sincerely Kai
