KATHLEEN CUNNINGHAM Obituary

CUNNINGHAM VEYSMAN Kathleen Kei (Katy) Cunningham Veysman of Newton, NJ, was born Oct. 28, 1975, and left us March 17, 2017, after three years of cancer treatments that somehow never seemed to slow her down or cause any change in her positive personality. Katy was a graduate of Corinth Grade School, Shawnee-Mission East High School, where she was active in drama and music; Syracuse University, where she majored in film production; and Hunter College, where she received a master's degree in teaching. While living in New York City, Katy worked as an intern on Saturday Night Live, a production assistant on Woody Allen's movie, "Sweet and Lowdown", a singer-songwriter with her bands Deathmask and Hello Boat, a model, a movie actress, the production manager of Here Arts Theater, a census taker, a blogger (katycvblog.wordpress.com), the assistant manager of a NY harbor yacht cruiser, an ever loyal Royals fan, an artist, and an elementary school teacher. Katy was a dear daughter, a fun sister, a cool aunt, a cherished niece, a swinging cousin, a wonderful wife, a marvelous mom, and a forever friend to countless classmates, work mates, shipmates, rock 'n roll band mates, 5th grade students and the Good Lord knows how many others she met along her journey. Katy was a blessing who just kept on blessing. She had a way of bringing out the best in folks, a smile that made you feel a little better no matter how you'd been feeling before. Her beautiful life was celebrated by scores of friends and family, with songs, stories, videos and photos on April 8 in Mt. Pleasant, NJ, and at another Cunningham family celebration on April 17 in Donegal, Ireland. Katy was preceded in death by her grandparents, Connell and Nora Cunningham (Kelly) of Kansas City, and George and Chieko Harano of North Platte, Neb. She leaves her husband, Boris Veysman and son, Connell Veysman of the home; parents, Ed and Gail Cunningham of Leawood, KS; sister, Emily (Andrew) Skwish, niece Marit and nephew Porter Skwish of Evanston, IL, parents-in-law, Luda and Val Veysman of Sparta, NJ, and a worldwide circle of family and friends in whose hearts she will always shine.

Juan and I have wonderful memories of Katy. The world was a little less bright when she left. She was our roommate and dear friend for many years. We think of her and talk about her often. Love to Boris and Connell, Ed, Gail, Emily and all the family. We miss you Katy, always
