Larry O. Denny, 69, born June 25, 1942, in KCMO. passed away March 7, 2012, at the KC Hospice House from lung cancer. He graduated from SM East, Prairie Village, Kan., in 1961. He attended Baker University, Baldwin, Kan., and later transferred to the University of Kansas where he earned both a BS and a JD degree. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma social fraternity. Larry was admitted to the Bar in Kansas, Missouri, Colorado and California. He practiced law in KCMO from 1968 until his death. He first worked as an attorney for Legal Aid and then as a sole practitioner with an emphasis in Social Security Law. Larry was a very caring person both in his private life and in his law practice. He often provided pro bono services to those in need. He also actively and financially supported a number of liberal causes. Even in death, Larry continues to give to others with his request to donate his body to KU Med for research. In his early years, he was active in the KC Ski Club. Later, he became an avid bicyclist and an annual participant in the Iowa 600 miles RAGBRAI. KC's local bicycle community recently honored him with a memorial bike rack in front of his church. Larry was married to Toni Sena from 1998 until her tragic death in a car/bicycle hit-and-run accident in 2003. He was preceded in death by his wife, Toni Sena, his parents, Lisle O. and Elizabeth A. Denny. Survivors include his sister, Joanne O. Cantril and husband Jack R. Cantril, nephew, David B. Cantril, niece, Debbie A. Clark and their families. Larry's family is thankful to his friend, Ann Zimmerman, for her compassionate care throughout his sickness. A family member remarked, "Larry was a very good man. We are proud of how he used his life." Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at the All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church in the Plaza. In lieu of flowers, donations requested to Bike Walk KC, 4741 Central St., Suite 161, KCMO 64112.

Larry Denny was very generous. The All Souls Trustee Board was recently notified of his contribution to our Endowment Fund, and we are so grateful he found a home with us. What a kind soul.

With deepest sympathy I'm writing this to Larry's family. I've known Larry since we both went to Dr. Cox for our allergies. That was back in the mid-seventies. I only learned tonight from a SSA employee that Larry was called home. I retired from SSA a couple of years ago and we lost track of one another. Larry had a big heart for everyone. I will truly miss his friendship.

A very super guy. Always so kind and friendly, even in high school (sort of a rarity). He weathered the tragic loss of his sweet wife in a bike accident bravely. Our alum group from Shawnee Mission East sorely misses Larry!

I would call Larry to discuss difficult questions of Social Security law. He was very experienced and always forthcoming with what he knew. I hope the public thinks about Larry when they consider what lawyers are really like and how much good they do.

My condolences to the family. I met Larry when I worked at SSA where he would fight for his client's benefits to the very end. I sometimes ran into him at the hardware store or theater and he was always the same upbeat, witty guy. We'll all miss him.

Larry was a beautiful man who I remember well, though it's been decades since I've lived in KC. I have fond memories of his gracious laugh. RIP.

We always loved visiting with Larry at the Kansas City Ballet. We had seats adjacent to his, and spent many intermissions enjoying lively conversation with him. He was a witty and colorful character.

Larry helped me greatly when no other attorney would take my case. Even thought he had severe health problems, he won when no one else thought that they could. I'll always be grateful for his help and compassion.

Larry was a splendid individual, I still vividly remember a ski trip with Larry and Toni. We had a contest about the US Presidents, Larry's knowlege astounded us all. His generous nature, his always upbeat personality even after he had cancer, his boundless energy, you just don't find many guys like that. He embraced life to the end.
If anyone should be in heaven, it should be Larry

My condolences and prayers for Larry's family and his whole host of loving friends. He will be terribly missed. When I was a young pup of a lawyer I rented office space from a group of lawyers Larry was a part of, then in the mid 90s Larry rented space from me. I will never forget all those crazy Friday nights at the Grand Emporium, blues and zydeco music, barbeque, dancing, singing and sweating until closing. Larry couldn't dance a lick but he gave it his all. He was a wonderful man, fantastic friend and brother, great and probing mind. Safe journey my good brother. God bless you always. With thanks and with love,

Larry was a remarkable person. I first met him on a bike ride with an established group. As a newbie I lagged behind and then while at the back of the pack, my bike chain came off. I struggled with it, but didn't have a clue how to fix it. Larry came back and fixed my bike and encouraged me to keep riding. The rest of the group was far ahead but with Larry's help we caught up and finished the ride. That was the kind of person Larry was.
