Larry Williams Obituary

Larry Williams
May 15, 1947 - February 7, 2022
Kansas City, Missouri - Larry Eugene Williams, 74, died on Monday, February 7, 2022 at the home. Born in Kansas City, Missouri on May 15, 1947, he was the first-born son of Ernest Eugene Williams and Rita Nordmeyer Williams. Larry grew up in the Northeast area of Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from Northeast Senior High School in 1965. He attended Kansas City Junior College after high school graduation. Larry belonged to and attended Budd Park Christian Church where he was a member of Boy Scout Troop #165. Larry earned the highest rank of Eagle Scout in October 1962 and earned the highest merit award in scouting, the God and Country Award in November 1963. He was invited to and rose to become a Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, H. Roe Bartle Reservation in 1963.
From 1966 to 1968 Larry served in the United States Army as a Medical Corpsman stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. Son Christopher Eugene Williams was born November 1, 1968 to Larry and Deborah Harding Williams at Fort Hood, Texas before Larry was honorably discharged in December 1968.
Upon his return to the Kansas City area, Larry's career included working for KenworthDart (accounting), working for Safeway (as a meat cutter-like his father), working for EdcorKeller Fire/Safety Products, working for Beagle Rentals (manager), owning his own Ace/True Value Hardware Store (in Kansas), initially helping to create QuickSilver Courier, and finally retiring in December 2010 from MAH Transportation.
In retirement Larry enjoyed ANY AND ALL EVENTS involving his grandchildren Meagan, Emily, and Twins Calvin and Olivia. It did not matter whether it was softball, basketball, soccer, football, baseball, or volleyball, he loved watching his grandchildren grow up and become fine young people. He enjoyed traveling out West on the Oregon Trail, hiking Arizona's Canyon de Chelly and learning to snowshoe in Colorado plus trips to visit friends and relatives in Minnesota, Tennessee, California, and Colorado with his Significant Other Judith Bradley. In retirement he continued to enjoy trips to his cabin on Lake of the Ozarks near Warsaw. Larry became a Master Tomato Gardener and produced so many tomatoes that all the near neighbors reaped (and ate) the copious bounty every summer. In retirement he rekindled a love of reading that ranged from Jack Higgins and Lee Child mysteries to Sandra Brown "romances".
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernie and Rita Williams, Kansas City, Missouri and nephew Matthew Paul Williams, Seguin, Texas. Left to mourn him are son, Chris Williams, Blue Springs, Missouri and his children, Meagan (Landon) Foreman, Emily Williams both of Kansas City, Missouri and Twins Calvin and Olivia Williams of Grain Valley, Missouri; brother Fran Williams, Polo, Missouri and his children Jay and Jill; brother Paul Williams (Debbie), Ft. Myers , Florida and their children Scott (Sari), Oak Grove, Missouri, and Sara(Jason) Howarth, St. Louis, Missouri; sister Diana Williams(Pat Beal), Carrollton, Texas; twin sister, Linda Millan, Riverside, Missouri and her children Jeff, Vince and Candy; twin sister Lorna Williams, Riverside, Missouri and her children Donald, Kathy and Greg; and a favorite uncle, Francis "Bugs" Williams, Excelsior Springs, Missouri and his children, Scooter and Candy.
Larry will be fondly remembered by Pat Williams of St. Joseph, Missouri and her family Brenda and Ron Roberts and Mary Pat and Greg Vernon; Deborah Harding King, Independence, Missouri; Robin Williams, Grain Valley, Missouri; his Silver Sneakers Exercise Classes at both Tony Aguirre Community Center and the North Kansas City YMCA, many Roanoke residents who knew him to be a helpful, friendly, kind, and caring neighbor and many other KC friends.
Cremation Services are pending. Military service will be held at Leavenworth National Cemetery and a Celebration of Life is being planned and will be announced at a later date.
Memorials to honor Larry and his beloved pet, Lola (who has already met him at the Rainbow Bridge) may be made to the Kansas City Pet Project, 7077 Elmwood Avenue, Kansas City. Missouri 64132.

We loved talking to Larry when meeting on his walks with Lola & our walks with our pups. Larry always had a waive & hello at the very least. He will be missed in the neighborhood! I´m pretty sure my Kirby & Peter were waiting with Lola to meet Larry at the bridge.

I am going to miss Larry as a friend and workout partner at North Kansas City YMCA . Larry joined with me at the Y after Covid 19 shut down our Silver Sneakers class at Tony Aguirre Community Center. Our Silver Sneakers group had lunch with Larry and Judith every fourth Saturday and holiday parties at their house. Our North Kansas City YMCA classes signed a sympathy card for Larry's family.
