LAUREL M. HUGHES Laurel M. Hughes, 85, Olathe, KS passed June 30, 2017 at Autumn Leaves. The rosary will be prayed at 5:30p.m. Friday, July 14th at the Porter Funeral Home, Lenexa, KS and visitation will follow till 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday the 15th at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Overland Park, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Harvester's, Salvation Army, Nature Conservancy, Habitat for Humanity, or Americares are suggested. Laurel was born in Lincoln Nebraska on March 10, 1932. She went to Florida State University, was a member of Kappa Delta sorority, and was named the 'Sweetheart of Sigma Chi'. Laurel received a B.S. Degree in Early Childhood Development. During her last semester at FSU she married William T. Hughes. She taught Pre-School through 3rd grade at different times for 32 years. Laurel and Bill had a condo on Sanibel Island, FL and spent as much time there as they could. The sunrises were great, but the sunsets were fabulous. Laurel was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Bill; her children Sharon and Bob, and preceded by daughter Debbie; numerous grandchildren, and brothers Drew and Blair.
