LOIS HANCOCK Obituary

Lois Elizabeth Post Hancock passed away at Manor Care of Overland Park on March 14 at the age of 101. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenton L. "K" Hancock, her parents Laurent B. and Cora Sidebottom Post, and sisters Alma Post and Gertrude Post Smith. A daughter, Phyllis Hancock Leimer of Wilmington, NC, survives. Lois was born November 15, 1908, in Plainview, TX. She grew up in Meadville, MO, and Kansas City, MO. She graduated from Southwest High School, attended Sarachon Hooley Business College and was employed as a secretary. She and "K" Hancock were married on April 16, 1931. They were married for 72 years, until the death of "K" in November 2003. An active community volunteer, Lois was president of the PTA's at William Rockhill Nelson elementary school and Paseo High school and was a Girl Scout troop leader. She was a member and officer of the League of Women Voters, Art Study Club, Kansas City Rose Society, and Rotary Wives. She was a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. She was a 50 year member of the Women's City Club and was very dedicated to her work with the club's Carolyn Doughty Fund, a charitable fund with a special interest in children. The Hancocks belonged to Second Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years. Lois was an active member of the Women's Association and for years took pleasure in decorating the Christmas tree in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Second Presbyterian Church, 318 E. 55th St., Kansas City, MO 64113. A memorial service will be held at Second Presbyterian Church, 55th Street and Oak on Tuesday, March 23, 11:00 A.M. Lois was a lovely person. She was my grandmother's cousin (Dorris Elizabeth Post Gates). She shared the family genealogy with us about a decade ago and we enjoyed visiting with her again in 2008 and a couple of months ago. She will be missed.
