Louise Hayes Obituary

Dec. 9, 1916 until Jan. 25, 2003 Louise Hayes was the Second Daughter of Robert and Lela Weagley, born up in Clay County on a Tenant Farm close to Northgate Junior High and the Clay County Annex. Her Older sister, Ruby preceded her in death as did her husband, Irvin W. Hayes and her youngest and second son, Joseph E. Hayes. Her brothers, Robert, Jr. and Glen Weagley and her son, James L. Hayes will survive her along with Jim's wife, Migdalia and Joe's widow, Jolene. Jolene and Migdalia have sons and daughters and grandchildren in abundance while Robert and Margaret Weagley have a son named Robert O. who also has a big clan in Columbia, where he is a Professor at the University of Missouri. Dr. Betty Schultze and David Robb are the children of Ruby and Roscoe Robb and have many children and grandchildren. Mrs. Hayes and her husband, Irvin, started the Hayes Hamburger & Chili Restaurant at 2502 NE Vivion Rd. back in October 1955, before there was an Antioch Shopping Center and the Antioch Road North of Vivion was gravel. It has been a well known spot for years and one of the charms of their business was the frequent appearance of Mrs. Hayes at the Diner even after her health began to diminish. It seemed that being around her friends in the public would bring her the joy that she could find no where else than her church. She was a Charter Member of the Northgate Baptist Church and the oldest living member, where she participated in the choir for years along with taking some courses at the Seminary. She was very instrumental in the Baptism of her husband and two boys at North Kansas City Baptist and later Northgate Baptist back in the 50's and early 60's. Louise Hayes always tried to instill in her two boys the values that she had learned from her mother and father on the farm. Even in the last month of her life when all seemed hopeless, she never complained and only had three words to share with Migdalia and Jim. I love you. When Jim would take his mother for their Sunday Church Rides and Friday Hair Appointments, she would reminisce about the past and ask him to hold her and kiss her, constantly saying she loved him and missed her other son, Joe so much. Joe passed away at the age of 55 on November 6, 2001. He is missed wholly as much as she will be. A Grand Lady has left this earth to join the God from whence she came. Visitation will be at D.W. Newcomer's Sons White Chapel, 6600 N. Antioch Rd., from 5:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, and Funeral Wednesday the 29th at 2 p.m., burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. (Arrangements: D.W. Newcomer's Sons White Chapel, 816-561-0024)

Mr. and Mrs. Hays gave my my very first job back in 1963. I learned the meaning of work and ethics while working with mom and pop Hayes. I miss them both and will untill no longer possible do buisness with the burger palace I have loved over the years. Mom, may you rest in eternal peace and tranquillity finally able to join Joe and Pop.
