LuAnn Riehle Obituary

LuAnn D. (Somers) Riehle, 69, of Raytown, MO passed away July 21st at her home after a long, courageous battle with cancer. LuAnn was born on July 23, 1955 to Graham Somers, Jr. & Leona (Boutz) Somers of Raytown MO.

LuAnn's career spanned over 4 decades in Emergency Medical Services. Beginning at Community Ambulance in 1975, she was one of the first female EMT-Paramedics in Kansas City. She moved to Acme in 1979 and continued with Ambulance Services, Inc., the entity the city of Kansas City used to create the Metropolitan Ambulance Services Trust (MAST). When Emergency Providers Inc. was contracted by the city to provide operational management for MAST, LuAnn served for a time as Local 34 Secretary/Treasurer and later as Scheduling Officer. She retired from the Kansas City Fire Department in 2016 and continued being an active member of IAFF Local 42 until her passing.

An avid golfer, LuAnn competed in several Ladies leagues over the years including Minor Park GC, Fred Arbanas at Longview Lake GC and, most recently at Drumm Farm GC. She recorded a hole-in-one on her 65th birthday while playing in the Ladies league at Drumm Farm. A long time member of the Women's Greater Kansas City Public Links Association, she served as Treasurer for many years. LuAnn loved her Chiefs, Royals and Missouri Tigers, with game days bringing out a voluminous wardrobe for the team colors of the day.

LuAnn is survived by her husband Patrick of the home, son Paul T. Taylor (Janessa) of Blue Springs, daughters Abigail R. Harrison of Raytown, Janessa M. Riehle and Meghan E. Kenworthy (Bryson) of Kansas City, grandchildren Delaney, Liam and Zeke Taylor, Luke and Trinity Harrison, Harper York and Adriel Eskridge, sister Terri Somers of Warrensburg and nephews Nick Somers (Rhianna) of Gardner KS and Travis Somers (Amber) of Kansas City. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Bradley Somers.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 4th from 12-4 at the Drumm Farm Golf Course, 15400 E. 34th St, Independence MO. The family requests contributions and donations be sent to LuAnn's favorite non-profit organization, Wayside Waifs.
