MANUTCHEHR PARSI Obituary

Manutchehr Khadiv Parsi, M.D., 74, died at 1:03 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer at home in Pittsburg, Kan., attended by his wife, Janet. He was born Oct. 18, 1938, in Kerman, Iran, and after attending local schools, he and his family moved to Tehran for higher education. He attended the University Of Tehran Medical School and graduated with the class of November 1964. He was in the Iranian Air Force for 18 months, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. In July 1966 he came to St. Louis, Mo., for residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He married Janet Bartz in April of 1972. He concentrated on training in OB/GYN residency and studying for his board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology. In 1974, he and his wife opened private practice in Pittsburg. He brought the newest methods of Obstetrics and Gynecology to Pittsburg, such as fetal heart monitoring and pelvic laparoscopic procedures. On Feb. 15, 1975, he performed the first laparoscopic procedure in Girard Hospital. He was Board Certified by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecology. He was a member of the Southeast Kansas Medical Society. With God's help and the help of his esteemed colleagues and the support of the community he delivered thousands of babies and performed many, many surgeries with no deaths. He was an avid hiker and backpacker with his wife, Janet, hiking in the National Parks, especially Glacier National Park in Montana, Yosemite in California and the Grand Canyon which they hiked in and out of several times. He also rafted the Colorado River three times with friends and his wife. Zoroastrian Strong Faith was his religious community in Kansas City, Mo. Survivors include his wife, Janet of the home in Pittsburg; three brothers, Kaykhosrov Parsi of Tehran, Iran, Iraj Parsi of California, and Feraidoon Parsi of California and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Khodadad and Simeendokht Keshavarsi Parsi and one sister, Katayoon. He was buried according to his tradition before sunset on the day of his passing, April 18, in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Pittsburg. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Bath- Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway in Pittsburg. The family suggests expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to Hospice Compasuss or the Southeast Kansas Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
