Marilyn Swoyer Obituary
April 15, 1938 - July 19, 2025
Lawrence, Kansas - The Celebration of Life Service for Marilyn Elaine Swoyer, 87, of Kansas City, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2025, at North Cross United Methodist Church, 1321 NE Vivion Rd. Kansas City, MO 64118.
Mrs. Swoyer died on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Monterey Village Senior Living in Lawrence, Kansas following a long struggle with Alzheimer's.
She was born on April 15, 1938 in Oskaloosa, KS, the daughter of Beverly and Orpha Keeling. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1956.
Following her graduation, she was married to Harold Swoyer on June 10, 1956 at the First Methodist Church of Oskaloosa. He pre-deceased her in 2007. She was also pre-deceased by her brother, Alfred Wayne "Uncle Wayne" Keeling in 2003.
Mrs. Swoyer was a homemaker until both her sons were going through college, whereupon she achieved her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. She graduated from the North Kansas City Hospital program with a Licensed Practical Nurse certification. She worked at North Kansas City Hospital for 12 years until her retirement.
Mrs. Swoyer was a member of North Cross United Methodist Church.
She traveled the world; to experience it, to serve her church as a medical missionary in both Africa and Central America and to visit friends overseas. She had many friends here as well and was especially fond of events involving her high school classmates.
She is survived by her two sons, Michael and Jeffrey Swoyer, both Kansas City, Missouri, her sister Karen Johnson, Lawrence and her granddaughter, Aja Swoyer.

We so loved your Mom, Mike and Jeff. She was a good friend to our family, and especially, our Mom, Zola, for many years.
I always admired her determination to go back to school to do nursing, and she was a stellar example of what a nurse should be. She was so knowledgeable and decisive in her approach to patients.
I will be keeping you both in my heart in the days ahead. Please accept my sincere sympathy on your loss.
