Mark Keating Obituary

Mark Keating

April 27, 1960 - February 11, 2026

Overland Park, Kansas - Mark Francis Keating passed away on February 11, 2026, at the age of 65.

Mark was a proud fifth-generation Texan. His paternal grandfather emigrated from Ireland to New York City just before the Great Depression, seeking opportunity in a new land. On his mother's side, his great-great-grandfather emigrated from Edinburgh to Texas in the late 1800s and became general manager of the historic Spur Ranch near Lubbock-one of the largest ranches in Texas at the time.

Mark grew up in Dallas and the nearby communities of Richardson and Sherman. He graduated from Sherman High School in 1978, and Avila University in 1982. Over the years, he also made homes in Platte City, Missouri; Smithville, Missouri; and Overland Park, Kansas.

In 1989, Mark married and later welcomed two daughters, born in 1993 and 1995, who were among his greatest joys.

Mark's career was in medical sales, including with Johnson & Johnson and St. Jude Medical, among others.

His passion for music shaped much of his life. He was a well-known radio announcer in Kansas City, working at Q104, KY102, and 106.5 KCI, where listeners knew him on air as "Mark Miller." His love of music and warm, familiar voice made him a beloved presence to many throughout the region.

Mark is survived by his daughters, Courtney Gonzalez-Garcia (Enrique) and Mary Fletcher (Clint); his brother, Blake Keating (Margaret); and his cherished grandchildren, Carter, Hazel, and Cameron Fletcher.

Extremely loyal and deeply devoted to those he loved, Mark treasured his many friendships and will be missed by countless friends in addition to his family.

Services will be held on Tuesday, February 17, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Smithville, Missouri. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Kansas City North.

Mark was my only sibling and we were 26 months apart. He was an integral part of my life for almost 66 years. We moved frequently and by the time I was in the third grade I had been in six different schools. Mark was my constant companion and playmate throughout the years - whether riding bikes, shooting baskets or playing tackle football in intense one on one games, we always had fun together. We would beat older and taller friends at basketball with him being closer to the basket and me shooting from the outside – we were pretty tough to beat.

Mark moved to Kansas City in 1978 and I stayed in Texas for college and law school. That was really our only time away from one another. I moved to Kansas City and from 1986 to 1989, we lived with one another again. Mark always knew everyone and they all knew him. He was extremely friendly and personable. He got us our first formal jobs cutting lawns for a realtor in Sherman. We were extremely excited to be employed during the recession of 1973–74. The excitement was lessened somewhat when we discovered that the yards we would be cutting were frequently overgrown and jungle-like it was really hard work for meager wages. Our Dad used to complain that we would make five or $10 cutting yards and he would have to spend $25-$35 to get the mower fixed.

Mark was quite the raconteur with his engaging and empathetic manner and wry smile. Throughout various health challenges during the last 10 years or so of his life, Mark maintained his good humor and optimistic outlook. We talked on the phone frequently and always enjoyed our conversation and the laughter that ensued. My wife, Margaret and I will miss him greatly.

Great guy, and what a great radio voice! Worked with him in medical radiology equipment sales, while I was in the KC area and remained friends through the years. My deepest condolences to his loved ones. I will miss our phone conversations. Rest in peace my friend!

My friendship with Mark spans nearly 50 years. First met Mark in Sherman TX and gave him his first job in radio. He was a great friend and we spoke regularly about the good old days in Sherman. He leaves a hole in my heart that will always be there. My deepest condolences go out to Mark’s family and friends. Godspeed Mark till we meet again.

My brother Jim has been a best friend of Mark's since college or before. I know they stayed close until Marks passing. We'll keep his family in our prayers.
