Mary Krause Obituary

Mary Krause

August 25, 1934 - March 21, 2026

Overland Park, Kansas - Mary Ann Krause passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family both near and far. Mary Ann was born in Kansas City, MO on August 25, 1934. She attended Blessed Sacrament grade school and graduated from Lillis High School in 1951. She attended the College of St. Teresa (Avila) for three years and completed the requirements to enter Menorah Medical Center school of medical technology where she graduated with a degree in Med Tech – beginning decades of service for others. While in school, she met the love of her life, Don Krause, after his return from duty in the US Marine Corp. They were married in 1954 and Mary Ann worked to support her husband as he finished dental school in 1959. Together, they celebrated and enjoyed the great adventure of 65 years of married life. They raised five children – Steve (Diana), Kathleen (Rick), Dennis (Tracie), Kevin (Lana) and Teresa (Sean). They had 15 grandchildren, two step granddaughters and 18 (and growing) great grandchildren. They were both very active in the children's sporting activities and were passionate about providing their children with educational opportunities throughout their lives. Mary Ann was also passionate about service. She was a volunteer for many years at Children's Mercy Hospital, and she accompanied her husband on multiple dental mission trips to Guatemala where she described many long days of caring for and delivering comfort to the underserved in the missions. They both loved to entertain their family and friends at their lake house in the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks. Mary Ann and Don enjoyed traveling after their retirement. Mary Ann was very proud of her Irish and Italian heritage. Their travels took them many exciting places including visiting Ireland and Sicily to meet her many cousins. Her grandmother and mother immigrated to America from Sicily in 1910. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Don Krause, her parents Jean and Edward Hughes, her two brothers, Edward Hughes and John Hughes and her sister-in-law Nancy Hughes.

In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest a donation in Mary Ann's name to Children's Mercy Hospital. Services are scheduled for Monday, March 30th at Nativity Catholic Church in Leawood, KS. The Rosary will begin at 9:30 followed by a visitation with the family from 10:00 – 11:00. A funeral mass will begin at 11:00. A livestream of the funeral mass can be found at www.kcnativity.org/onlineevents. The family would like to thank Mary Ann's many caregivers that provided her with excellent care and compassion over her life.
