Funeral services for Gilbert Krause, 86 of Giddings Texas are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, Texas with Rev. John Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Gilbert Fred Krause was born, October 2, 1939, in Northrup, Lee County, Texas, to Herbert Krause and Olga (Menzel) Krause. He was baptized on October 8, 1939, at St. Paul Lutheran Church Serbin, by Pastor Herman Schmidt. He was confirmed, on April 11, 1954, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, by Pastor Arthur Arndt. His confirmation verse was John 15 verse 5, "I am the vine, ye are the branches, He that abideth in me and I in him the same bringeth forth much fruit, for without me ye can do nothing."
He married Dorothy Mitschke (his classmate and best friend of eight years in school) on October 15, 1960 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, by Pastor Arthur Arndt and were blessed to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary last October. They lived their entire married life, in
Giddings, Texas. They had two daughters, Lori and Lisa.
Gilbert worked in various jobs including driving a school bus, and taught school for two years at St. Paul Serbin. Gilbert also worked as a painter with his Uncle Alfred Krause and later went to work at Koslan, Inc. building furniture for several years.
In 1971, Gilbert and Dorothy started their own company and in 1972 formed the corporation Kaemark Salon Furniture; which they owned and operated until they sold the company in October 2000, to Howard & Karen Owen.
For several years Gilbert served on the Giddings City Council (including Mayor Pro-Tem), Chamber of Commerce, Zoning Committee and Economic Development Board for the City of Giddings. For over 25 years he served on various church boards including, Elders, and Board of Education and Finance. He also played church organ for Sunday Worship Service during vacancy at St. Paul Serbin. For many years he also played guitar and sang country music for private parties, weddings, and anniversaries.
From 2003 to June 2025 Gilbert served on the Board of Directors of Carmine State Bank. He also worked with the local Braille Group at Immanuel Lutheran Church for 15 years. In 2013, he was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Giddings Chamber of Commerce.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Olga Krause, stepmother Laura Krause, sister Frances and brother-in-law Melvin Zoch, brother and sister-in-law Ludwig & Edna Krause, brother-in-law Mike Mitschke, and grandson Blake Siegmund.
Gilbert fell asleep in Jesus on March 18, 2026 at the age of 86 years, 5 months, and 16 days in Giddings Texas.
Gilbert leaves to mourn his wife Dorothy Krause, two daughters Lori & Mike Bradley of Huntsville, TX, Lisa & John Gay of Northrup, TX, one granddaughter Mallory & Jesse Montez and two great grandchildren Maddie & Blake Brown of Morgan's Point Resort, TX, one step grandson Mike & Stephanie Rowe and two step great grandchildren Lyla and Abel of Lexington Park, MD, one step granddaughter Christi and Albert Cazares and two step great grandchildren Ciel and Max of Riverview, FL, brother Monroe & Eleanor Krause of Pflugerville, TX, one sister-in-law Ruth & Sylvin Mersiovsky of
Giddings, TX, also many nieces & nephews and other friends and acquaintances.
Memorials may be made to the General Fund or Building Fund at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin or to the
charity of one's choice.
