Morris Asbill Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations - La Grange on Mar. 16, 2026.
Morris W. "Bill" Asbill, Jr., aged 87, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, in La Grange, Texas. He was born on March 21, 1938, in Dallas, Texas, son of Morris W. and Christine Asbill. Bill was a man of honor, dedication, and boundless love, whose life was marked by service to his country, commitment to his family, and a passion for knowledge and adventure.

Bill's educational journey was as diverse as it was impressive. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Journalism from Texas A&M University in 1960. In 1980 he earned a Master of Arts in Management and Supervision from Central Michigan University.

His thirst for knowledge was only matched by his desire to serve, which he did with distinction as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force. His military career was decorated with numerous accolades including: the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal; Air Force Commendation Medal with first oak Leaf Cluster; Air Force Presidential Unit Citation; Vietnam Service Medal with five campaigns, and several other Vietnamese decorations for his service in Southeast Asia.

Bill is survived by his loving family: wife, Jackie Cantrell Asbill; daughter, Kristi Asbill Brightwell and her husband Rick; grandson, Jacob K. Asbill and wife Ashley, and his great-grandchildren, Liam and Ella; step-granddaughter, Breanna Brightwell Nichols and husband Ian, and step-great grandchildren, Reed and Eleanor. He was preceded in death by his son Gregory K. Asbill.

Morris W. Asbill, Jr. was granted an honorable internment at the Houston VA National Cemetery. Services will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026 at 2:00 pm.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Camp Tejas, 1038 Private Road 2191, Giddings, TX.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Texas A&M Foundation, 401 George Bush Drive, College Station, Texas 77840. Gifts received will be applied to the Corps of Cadets Scholarship Fund #400-33266. Please designate gifts "In Memory of Morris 'Bill' Asbill, Jr., Lt.Col.
