Melissa Edris Obituary

Melissa "Missy" Suzanne Edris Melissa "Missy" Suzanne Edris began her journey February 28, 1962 in KC, MO, completing her earthly adventures July 9, 2020. Her beloved parents, the late Evelyn & Wayne Edris, grandparents, & special Aunt Phyllis, as well as her many furry & feathered friends, have embraced her vivacious spirit with an eternal celebratory reunion. Missy leaves her sister, Lela Edris Carr, nephew Michael Blair ( Zane & Jack). She was an honorary "aunt" and a friend to many. Missy grew up in Prairie Village, KS, was a '80 grad from S.M. East, later attending JCCC to study Fashion Merchandising. She loved home, yet travel & adventure were passions- from Paris to her former second home in L.A. A tall, leggy, blonde with a brilliant smile, robust laugh & infectious giggle, Missy made everyone feel beautiful & valued. Ever active in her youth, loving to act, sing, & dance, she was a KC Chiefs Chiefette, a runway & newspaper model for Jones Store and Macy's, worked at 61 Country radio leading her to a successful career in voice work with national broadcast campaigns, corporate narrations, & audiobooks. She was most proud & known for being Sprint's voice of "Claire". Her voice was memorable, yet she gave it freely to the world with her words of encouragement, humor& hope. She spoke with God & Jesus regularly, & in her many times of aloneness, she was never alone. An outdoor celebratory service will be held at 7:30 pm Wednesday, July 15 in South Lake Park, 7601 W 86 St OP, KS. Bring a lawn chair/blanket, & mask for a socially distanced service. If inclined, send donations to the National Kidney Foundation 6405 Metcalf Ave #204 OP,KS 66209. Express gratitude for HER life by how well you live YOURS.

We miss you so much, Missy. You were in our lives for two decades, and touched us with so much love, friendship, peace, encouragement, and faith in the future. I can´t believe it has been two years now, and I still miss talking with you. You never let life keep you down and faced it all with your wonderful laugh. I´m sure you´re giving tours in heaven! Peace and love to you and your family.

Lela and Michael, this popped up in my email today, and a flood of memories came back.

I met Missy in 2002 when I was working at Cherokee Christian Church. We became friends, and she embraced my family as hers. Oh, the warmth and love and compassion she exuded. When my husband was diagnosed with terminal cancer, she was absolutely there for us through everything. She called my husband often to check on him, even when she was traveling. He cherished those calls. She brought a bottle of champagne on our last anniversary that we shared, and we talked for hours.

My kids adored her. She made them feel important, especially after my husband (their dad) died. She made everyone feel special.

We lost touch but reconnected just months before she died. I had texted her and she was struggling. I told her that she never had to text me back and that I loved her.

When I shared with my kiddos that she had passed, we shared some of the most beautiful memories.

Missy is beautiful through and through. Our earth angel got her heavenly wings.

May her memories be a blessing.

I´m so terribly shocked to have just found out about Melissas death today .. we met in 2004 while I was visiting from Australia.. We had kept in touch via email since and I even got to come to KC at the end of 2019 for some Chiefs games and were both really excited to catch up after not seeing each other for many years ... well we didn´t actually catch up after all but I was hoping to travel back to KC last year but COVID hit .. I thought it was strange not hearing from her for the past 12 months ... I´m so terribly devastated and my thoughts are with all Melissas family

Dearest Lela and family, I just found out about Melissa's passing today. I am so sad... I know you will miss her dearly . It was my honor to be her nurse and her friend. I told her she was the strongest person I knew. Her love of life and her beautiful positive spirit on the roughest of days was an inspiration to us all. I will miss her... but forever treasure her in my heart.

Missy was a dear friend and colleague in acting and voice work. She and I shared many stories and I was blessed to have her as a mentor and sounding board. A remarkable souls who was a great listener as well as so adept with her voice. We were proud and honored to know her, and her body of work as well as her compassion and care for everyone she encountered. We miss you, Missy. Thank you for being such a wonderful friend.

I met my fellow model through our work many years ago. I knew immediately how special she was and I was fortunate enough to see her often at work, and fortunate that we became friends. She was one of the truly kind and sweetest people, and all who were touched by her soul should consider themselves blessed. Missy had the sexiest voice ever! And her laugh..... unforgettable. She deserved all the work that she received from such characteristics traits. I used to call Sprint for no other reason than to hear her golden voice. She was always so interested in other's lives and never failed to ask me about my sons. I will never forget her strength and acceptance. Gone too soon, she was a true gem of our existence.

Missy was one of the kindest people I have ever known. Always supportive and full of hope for the future, she was an inspiration. We had so much fun as kids, whether it was hanging out in the neighborhood, Girl Scouts, dancing, or seeing Elvis in concert. I found this great picture from my wedding. I will always remember her incredible passion for life and how she impacted ours.
