Michael Amigoni Obituary

Michael Anthony Amigoni

January 17, 1960 - August 12, 2024

Kansas City, Missouri - Michael Anthony Amigoni, 64, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, accomplishment, and cherished memories. A devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, Michael's life was defined by his deep connections with those he held dear.

Michael pursued his education at the University of Illinois - Chicago, where he earned his MBA and developed a passion for learning and a curiosity about the world that stayed with him throughout his life. His love for wine, initially a hobby, blossomed into something much greater. With dedication and vision, Michael turned his passion into a legacy, establishing the well-known Amigoni Urban Winery in the Kansas City area. The winery became a symbol of his commitment to quality and his love for sharing the joys of wine with others.

Born to Toni and Joe "Bing" Amigoni of Roanoke, Illinois, Michael grew up with a strong sense of family, which remained a cornerstone of his life. He was the beloved husband of Kerry Amigoni and a proud father to Joe and Kati Amigoni. Michael's siblings, Sue Schultz and Nicholas Amigoni, will forever remember him as a loving brother. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Keifner, who all welcomed him home with open arms.

Michael had a profound love for Italy, especially the town of Montecatini-Terme, where he found solace and joy. His passion for life extended to his love for sports, particularly basketball and bocce ball, both of which he enjoyed playing with family and friends. His love for the Kansas City Chiefs was another of his great joys, and he could often be found cheering on his favorite team. Michael was also immensely proud of his involvement in the Kansas City community, particularly as a sponsor of the first-ever women's soccer stadium for the Kansas City Current.

In honor of Michael's life and his dedication to causes close to his heart, the family kindly requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to KU Medical Center, https://giving.kansashealthsystem.com/Michael-Amigoni, or the Police Athletic League (PAL) where he helped build a community garden and vineyard, https://www.palkck.org or to WIN for KC, https://www.sportkc.org/win-for-kc, supporting women and girls in sports. These organizations reflect Michael's values and the communities he cared deeply about.

A celebration of Michael's life will be held on September 22nd at 3:00 p.m. at Amigoni Urban Winery. In lieu of a traditional service, this gathering will reflect the joy and warmth that Michael brought to the world, as friends and family come together to share stories, raise a glass, and honor a life well-lived.

So hard to believe. A year ago, standing and talking to Michael about the latest trip to Italy. Kerry, Joe and Katie have been carrying on the tradition of Amigoni name. Wine production, hospitality, community service. A great legacy.

A very fun loving guy I knew as business associate in Luxury Car Rental in Chicago in the 80's. We were able to catch-up when we visited the winery about 10 years ago. So sad. He always loved wine, but when I shared a house with him and Richard D., all we could afford was Earnest and Julio Burgundy or Mickey's Malt Liquor.
RIP BUDDY!

I knew Mike from playing basketball at Cure of Ars over 20 years ago and considered him a friend. I'm shocked as to his passing at such a young age. May God accept Mike in heaven and comfort his family.

I did not get to know Mike and Kerry until my mom and his mom, who were first cousins, reconnected late in life. My husband and I had the opportunity to have our son´s wedding rehearsal dinner at Amigoni Urban Winery. Kerry and family: What you built and the community you have fostered are so special. We are so sorry for your loss.

The Halo auction was how we discovered the wonderful experience of Amigoni wines and the pleasure to meet Mike and Kerry and the staff. November 2019 our friends and family joined us on a grand tour of the of the winery, the behind the scenes process that goes on with Mikes wine making, and the chance to sample so many wines from his winery hooked us! We have been wine members since. Mike and Kerry have always opened their arms to us and others we have brought with us! Mike would pull Fred aside at the wine club events and say "hey Fred, you gotta taste this new release". He was just an amazing guy and we will dearly miss him. The winery is part of our lives and as long as it´s open, that will never change. We toasted a glass of Amigoni Barbera the day we read about his passing. He will be greatly missed. A void that no one can fill. But I know he is up above looking over Kerry and the winery and keeping in good hands.

I was so honored to work with Michael and the Amigoni family as part of their partnership with KC Current. He was so welcoming, cheery and funny in our meetings at the tasting room. It was so inspiring to see someone working and living their passion everyday, and sharing it with others in the way that he did. Will miss Michael, the Amigoni family is in my thoughts.

And what a legacy Michael left as his footprint on everything he touched!

He approached everything in his life with a scientific yet artistic way. His family whom he cherished. His wine that he created, which was and is the best wine between Napa and Bordeaux. His friends who he welcomed into his wine-making endeavors. His smile that was always there, even in his serious moments. His tenacity through a few tough health issues. His love for Italy and home in Montecatini.

As a close friend, Michael will be greatly missed.

Sara and I are praying for peace for the family.

Cry, laugh, remember.... I worked with Michael back in the day and watched through Facebook as he built the winery. He was a good man. Gone too early. My prayers are with the family.

What a gracious neighbor Michael Amigoni was. He loved his lawn to look great. And when neighbors were in need, he was right there helping.

My condolences Kerry, Katie and Joe. Words cannot express the hurt I feel. Sometimes it seems like life is not fair, yet we have to push on anyway. May you find solace during these turbulent time.

Soar on Michael, soar on.
