NANCY RIGGS Obituary

Nancy J. Cohu Riggs, 65, Kansas City, Mo., passed away Friday, December 4, 2009, at North Kansas City Hospital. A Celebration of her life will be 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 1600 N. 291 Hwy., Liberty, Mo. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Nancy was born Nov. 4, 1944, in Tehachapi, Calif., the daughter of Earl Bell and Alice Jane (Walter) Weber. She was a graduate of Northwestern Michigan College with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and a minor in music. She retired in 2003 from Kansas City, Kan., schools as an Elementary Music Teacher. Nancy was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading, jazz music, helping others shine with their talent and she loved spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband, Jerry Riggs of the home; children, Keith Riggs of Louisville, Ky., Dan Cohu and his wife Brenda of Olathe, Kan., Jaimee Wheat and her husband Christopher of Gladstone, Mo., Kristopher Riggs and his wife Julietta of Germany, Jenny Hopkins and her husband Jim of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Emily Cobble and her husband Darrell of Kansas City, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; mother, Alice Weber of Kalamazoo, Mich.; sister, Jane DeMink of Indianapolis, Ind.; brother, David Weber of San Francisco, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. This was not a pleasant discovery to make on the internet. I knew Nancy as a very good friend in Susanville, CA. I have a journal that I named Nancy, because she was so good to talk to. My condolences to Dan, Jaimie and Emily. I have prayed for you many times since 1979 and will continue to do so.

My deepest sympathy for the loss of your wife and Mother, Nancy. I knew Nancy through teaching with her in the KCK#500 school system, She was a very special and talented Teacher, who was my friend and I enjoyed teaching with her since we shared many Educational beliefs and ideas. She wil be greatly missed by myself as well as the many teachers and students that she touched while in the KCK schools. My thoughts and prayers are with you on this very sad loss.
