The Narayan Family,
It was with shock that I heard the sad news. Bill was my mentor at both Johns Hopkins and KU and I have many happy memories of the 8 years I spent in his lab. No other scientist I've known was so full of new ideas and so willing to discuss new approaches and concepts. I will miss him.

Dear Narayan Family,
I had the pleasure and honor of working with Dr. Narayan and the Scientific Education Partnership under the leadership of Dr. Tony Hancock in the early 1990's. Dr. Narayan was a singularly brilliant scientist who could also clearly articulate his forward-thinking work with HIV/AIDS. I will be forever grateful to him for demonstrating the power of will and discipline, even when it came to the "soft science" of public relations.
My deepest condolences to you on the loss of a man who was, literally, one in a million.
Best regards,
Sheila Strand

Dearest Moonie,
We offer our sincerest condolences on the loss of Bill. We know that good things had been happening in your lives and that is a true blessing. Another one is that all of your kids were here together with you both at the very moment of his, and your need. What a comfort. You and Bill have been wonderful neighbors and we treasure your friendship. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Moonshine, and the kids and grandchildren.

Very Sincerely,

Mrs Narayan and family.I'am in total shock at the lost of Dr Narayan.I meet Dr Narayan on his first tour of the department of Microbiology in 1993.I arranged setting up his glassware and media supplies in his new lab at KU Med as it came in from John Hopkins.Dr Narayan was always pleasant and giving to me.He would stop in the glassware room to check on me and keep me out of trouble he would say.I will miss him dearly. May God continue to give you strength and Bless you all at this time. Love Renee Bell.

To The Narayan family: I have never met you but when i arrived at KUMC from the "east" as Bill and i referred to it several years ago, he became an instant mentor to me and someone I will never forget. Reaching out to newcomers was facile for him and i can only imagine the magnitude of his loss to family, friends and the so many young scientists that he inspired.
My deepeest sympathies.

Dear Moonie,
We're so very sorry for your loss, and will always remember Bill picking all of us up in his Kharman Ghia, because of our perpetually broken down car! Our fond memories of you and yours abound. To us, you all remain, young, healthy and vital. Bill was way too young to leave!

I am a colleague of Robin Narayan. Myself and my family would like to express our most sincere condolences to your family. I have known Robin for more than 16 years, and he has always spoken very fondly of his family on numerous occasions. Bill will be missed, but also celebrated since he lived a very full and productive life.

Losing you Bill, has been the deepest loss of my life. You took me under your wings when I knew was new to HIV research. I blossomed under your nurturing. Your passion for life and science was infectious. I have many good memories of you that I will cherish forever. Every time that I smell a rose or see that hummingbird drink nectar, I will know you are around. As you often said, “ let the dance go on…” will strive to make you proud.
