OSCAR LEWIS Obituary

Oscar Lee Lewis, 80, of Kansas City, MO passed away Mon. Feb. 6, 2012. Oscar was born Dec. 16, 1931 in Marceline, MO to Edgar and Ida Lewis. After graduation from high school, Oscar joined the US Air Force and served proudly during the Korean War until his discharge in 1954 after serving his last post as a Logistics Sergeant Major with the UNC-MAC. In Nov. 1957 Oscar became a member of the Kansas City, MO Fire Department and served for 30 years, 1 month, and 10 days retiring after a heart by-pass in 1987. On May 17, 1959 Oscar married Erma Wagner and they enjoyed each other's company for over 52 years. Oscar was Representative for IAFF Local 42 District 18 as well as serving as Vice President for the IAFF Local 42 Executive Board also serving as Chairman for the Clay Co Parks Board. Oscar was a member of the TowerView Baptist Church and was a key person on the building of the church. Oscar was silent partner in the creation of Busby's Conservatory of Dance. Oscar received many honors for his military and fire service but was most proud of his Fireman's Medal he received in Oct of 2010, the 50th anniversary of the gasoline explosion. Preceded in death by his parents and 7 brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife, Erma; a daughter, Catherine Lee Sloan (Ron); a son, Jay T. (Connie); a sister, Helen Tucker; 11 grandchildren, Kieth (Amanda), Angela, Jason (Shanna), Jacob, Tyler (Marti), Amy, Olivia, Karen (Walter), Peter (Ella), Gail, and William; 11 great grandchildren; and many, many close loving friends. Services are set 3:30 PM Saturday February 11, 2012 at White Chapel Funeral Home. The Family will receive friends from 2:30-3:30 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be 11 AM Monday Feb. 13, 2012 at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens KC, MO. Memorials are suggested to the Surviving Spouse and Family Endowment Fund; SAFE.
