So worried we might lose each other, we eloped one January, then formally "Wed" before our families 5 months later. You asked me to hold on tight & run with you thru this life, because we had so much to accomplish & little time to do so. Perhaps you knew you would leave this life prematurely. Twenty -five years sped quickly away. We had ups & downs but I would do it all again if I could. Forever blessed & grateful to have been your wife, your best friend, your everything. Our children miss you terribly. Carrie Nicole, Brandon, Langston, grand son Isaiah & the grandchildren who came after. Smart & beautiful Nya an honor student who excels at everything she tries, Ty Jaden & Sophia. We teach them about you, your life. goals, & accomplishments. There is one important trait of yours we miss most of all, your infectious humor. Praying your Soul is at peace. Death cannot keep us apart. I will see you again...

Dr Burgette is surely missed. He was my Dr at Mather AFB and delivered my baby boy in 1989. Every year we talk about him. My son was due 10/15 however Dr was going on vacation so I had my son via c-section on Friday October 13th, he was breach. This is my son. My former husband and I will forever be grateful to Dr B. I have mild cerebral palsy and he just took such great care of us.
My heart forever rest in peace. Thinking of his beloved wife and family. He will always be in our hearts.

Dr. Phillip Burgette delivered two of my sons in Sacramento California. He was the most caring, patient and knowledgeable doctor. He discovered the uterine cancer when I was only 22 years old and was proactive and made me a priority. Today I am still living cancer free thanks to Jesus Christ my healer, and Dr. Burgette through treatments and his years of experience. I was able to have two more children and am living a healthy life. My children know of his outstanding hard work and dedication to his patients and they are still very much grateful and thankful that I am alive today and living well. Dr. Burgette will always be remembered and in our hearts.

Unfortnatly, I just learned of Phillips passing. He were good friend and classmates in high school.Unfortunately, our paths did not cross after high school. Even at an early age, Phillip had the maturity and wisdom of an old soul. He knew he had a gift for medicine. Even back in the Biology classes of Mrs Holloway in high school; we had deep discussions of him doing everything possible to become and OB/GYN. He was a member of the Beta Club in high school and we had a great group of members that supported each other during those classes in school. It does not suprise me that Phillip had outstanding bedside manner as a doctor for the comments on this site. This was very much a part of his character growing up in high school also. He liked getting to bottom of issues from medicine to politics via debate. Much fun we all had in high school Phillip. May you rest in peace and enjoy knowing that you made significant impact on the lives of many here on earth. Your Classmate, Wade McCreary.

Dr Burgette was an angel, my daughter became pregnant at 15 i was so upset, but Dr burgett helped me through my anger. My daughter went into preterm labor, he was not on call that night, after he found out he gave us his cell phone number in case it happened again he could meet us at the hospital. That is just one story of his commitment to my family as his patients. I will forever remember his patience and his kindness, everyone that he touched with his enormous heart was blessed to know him

Dr. Burgette delivered my twins Sept.11, 1986. He was amazing, I'm sorry to hear he passed. I was transferred from Whiteman AFB with a premature delivery. I feel blessed everyday that he was the doctor God placed me with. My boys were 4lbs.13oz and 4lbs.6 oz. They grew up to be 6ft.3" and fine young men. I will continue to remember him every year on my sons birthday.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Burgette when he was stationed at Mather AFB and as a civilian at all of the Mercy hospitals. I worked in the surgery and Labor and delivery department so I spent a lot of time with Dr. Burgette and through that time I saw first hand how wonderful he was to patients and to the employees. The things that stuck out was his love for his wife Deb as he called her and his love of education. He talked about those things most to me during operations. When I first met him in the Air Force, I asked him why he decided to become a doctor and he simply said that his city needed more people like him to make it out so that he can give back. I still remember when he was so excited to buy that convertible 380 SL Mercedes, he definitely deserved it.

I have been trying to get a hold of Dr. Burgette for months now with no luck. Today I just happened to see this, and I am in total disbelief ! He delivered my two children in 2003 & 2005. I was 30 and had lost all hope. He was the most amazing doctor, counselor and friend ! I have thought of him from time to time and how he was a great blessing in my life. He helped make my pregnancies the best experiences of my life despite the fact that I was a high risk and very frightened. Somehow he always seemed to calm me down and help me see the light. I always tell people how wonderful Dr. Bergette was and I will continue to tell my story. My Deepest Condolences to his wife & family. May God Bless You. He will be greatly missed !

I am just in shock. I think about Dr. Burgette all the time because he was my OBGYN during my pregnancy with my twin sons in 94-95. He was my favorite doctor of all time, just a wonderful caring, compassionate man who made me feel very comfortable. I wanted to contact him to let him know the boys are in the 11th grade now. May you rest in peace Dr. Burgette.

Love,

Dr. B was my saving grace. He helped me in so many ways- he was my doctor and my friend. He delivered my two youngest babies and helped me' through very difficult pregnancies (preterm and 1 miscarriage). He was so good to me- making sure I had his cell phone number which I used on many occasions on our way to the hospital to make sure all was ok with baby. He would sit with my husband and I for hours to monitor me and make sure we were ok. He had dinner in my hospital room with my husband while I was in labor (: it was a running joke between us since I could not eat. I am also a nurse- but he never treated me any different from any of his other patients. He was a giving and loving man. I just found out of his passing- and on his anniversary I want to say Thank You Dr. B. Words cannot say how much we love you. Thank you for going above and beyond and walking the journey with us to have these beautiful babies (now age 7 and 5). You will never be forgotten....

Phil and I were in residency together at KU Med Center from 1983 until I finished (I'm a year older) in 1986. It was always a pleasure working with Phil. To the family of Phillip Burgette,
I remember Phillip best from our days as fellow Southeast Knights. The thing I most admired about Phillip then, and can best appreciate about him now (I am a 28 year Veteran teacher) was his high regard to Education. He was always serious about his studies and what his future would hold. Phillip did what others strive to do... he reached his goals, and he was able to set higher ones.
God bless you and keep you in your time of bereavement.

I am sad to hear of the passing of Phillip. We graduated from Southeast High School together and had some fantastic times. Our paths crossed again later in life at KU Hospital. December 23, 2009

My name is Ruth Allen (Humphrey) I went to high school with Phillip and really enjoyed the many conversations about political issues that surfaced during our high school days, He told me back in study hall that he was going to be a doctor and I am glad that he lived his dream. I am not surprised to hear that he was a good doctor and a caring practitioner, he always showed care and understanding when I was around him. My thoughts and prayers for the family at this time of great loss.

As a newly-minted labor nurse in the early 1990's, it was my pleasure to work with Dr. Burgette. I have the fondest memories of middle-of-the-night deliveries with Dr. Burgette, who was always very kind to his patients, and very patient with me and my rookie mistakes. The medical community and his family have lost a very good man. He will be fondly remembered.

Christina Drye

December 22, 2009

My Name is Christina Drye I was a patient of Dr. Burgette for many years. I have so many memories of Dr. Burgette specially when i gave birth to my twins.
At that time Dr. Burgette was no longer just my Doctor he became my friend. Dr. Burgette made me feel as though my life could contiue after giving birth and losing my twins at the same time. He was not only there for me when I gave birth as my Doctor he was also there for me when I had to allow the Funeral Home in to pick up my twins.

Dr. Burgette will be truely missed however never forgotten.

Every year on Dec. 30th and 31st I've always said a prayer for him and his family (that is the days I gave birth & lost my twins) I will contiue to do so every year.

May God Bless Dr. Burgette in his travels to join him. And may his family contiue to be strong. My prayers are with you all. I truly Love you all for being apart of such a special man. You all are the reason for him being who he was. The Very Best
