Joe was a classmate of my younger brother, Jim. Our homes were just a few doors away in Groton. He played baseball for me when I managed the town team. (I used to tease him, in later years, about the time he got thrown out at first base on what should have been a single to right field.) I remember Mary and Joe when they were dating. I visited them in Philadelphia one weekend and have brief shots of them on my home movies. A wonderful man. I'll miss his annual Xmas letter.

Dear Maura, Joe, Marilyn, and Family:

We just heard the terrible news of the passing of Uncle Joe.

Needless to say, he was an inspiration to our family. In particular, he taught us how to live life to its fullest. I am certain that you will look back on his life with no regrets.

I fondly remember my summers as a child your visits to Groton, where I would wonder over to Auntie Mary's house (nextdoor to my grandparents) to watch the Red Sox play the Royals. He would often taunt me about the Red Sox.

I also remember his time in Lowell, where I would visit him and Mary, and he would provide words of wisdom on surviving college.

We will miss his Xmas cards, which always included a recap of his year. He was a wonderful writer, and we would often marvel at his ability to accomplish so many things during a given year.

When our mother passed away last year, he sent a beautiful letter to our father. I will ask Dad to loan me the letter so that I can recite it to you. I think that you will find it to be uplifting while trying to struggle with this difficult period.

Uncle Joe is an inspiration to us all, and a role model in how we should all live our lives.

God bless you all.

Tim

Marylyn, Maura and families---I am thinking of you. Trying to rearrange my work schedule so that I can see you in the next couple of days; I will be in touch with both of you soon. An interesting connection--Ralph was so important and loved by both of you; you have both been important to me and I love you both. Peace, love and blessings to you and your families.

Maura, Joe, Marilyn and family,

It was a pleasure caring for your father and husband for the two evenings I did. Although I never actually got to speak to him, I can only imagine the jokes he would have thrown my way based upon your stories. I am so sorry to hear about his passing. He is very lucky to have had all of you in his life and with him throughout his time of sickness. Please know I am thinking of Ralph and all of you in this time.

My prayers are with you --
Kate Newman, Registered Nurse; KU Med
