RAYMOND SCHRADER Obituary

On this Silent and Holy Christmas Night, God called "O Come, O Come" to Ray to sleep in heavenly peace and died with his holy family, Madeline and Barbara Ann by this side and now sings Glory Hallelujah. This strong, loving, wise and faithful man to God, family and country was born October 11, 1919 to Helen and Adam Schratter in KCK with three deceased siblings. Go KU! He served in the National Guard and the US Army Scout in the 35th ID at DDay +2, St. Lo and the Battle of the Bulge walking 230 miles in 3 days. He and another captured 87 Germans earning the Bronze Star along with Honorable Service, Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award, American Campaign, American Defense Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and then became a Chevalier/Knight of France with the Legion of Honor Medal in 2009. After caring for his mom for 18 years he married the love of his life, Madeline in 1962 after meeting at the Ranch Bowl and a lucky strike and then had a "9lb bowling ball", Barbara Annie, two years later. He was a member of the Neighborhood Council, Friendly Club, DAV, VFW, usher at Our Lady of Lourdes, volunteer at Duchesne Clinic and the lunch program for the homeless at the Cathedral. He lived in Independence, the freedom for which he fought in the world, for 46 years and worked as a metal finisher for Volkswagon. He raised the flag and saluted it every day. We thank the VA, Riverside Nursing and Rehab, Catholic Charities Hospice and the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth for their care and prayers. Services for this faith filled man will be rosary at 5pm and special wake at 6:30pm on Wednesday at McGilley & Sheil Chapel and Funeral Mass at 10am Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes 7009 Blue Ridge Blvd Raytown, MO. Donations may be made to the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Retirement Fund, Duchesne Clinic, Providence Medical Center or Bishop Sullivan Center. We hope his favorite fried chicken is at the heavenly banquet. Condolences may left at www.mcgilleysheil.com. McGilley & Sheil Funeral Home, 11924 E. 47th St, Kansas City, MO 64133, 816-353-6555

Hi Barbara and Mrs. Schrader, We met each other at the gas station a few days ago. I just wanted you to know that I have so enjoyed viewing the photos and video of your precious father, Raymond. Like I told you at the time, I too am an only child and my Daddy went to Heaven in 1993. Barbara, we are so blessed to still have our precious Mothers with us. As the holidays once again approach, may you and your dear Mother have the peace and understanding of knowing that someday you will be with your Angel Dad/Husband once again. No more sadness, no more sorrow, only Joy, Joy, Joy. Sincerely, Sheila (Dunn) Garrigus

Barbara and Madeline, I am so happy that you were both with Ray when our Lord choose to take him home. I remeber my first time meeting Ray; I did some work to your house. We had a lot in common both coming from Strawberry Hill, and I enjoyed his stories about the old days. He was such a kind gentle man. He will be missed by all those he touched.
Love Ed and Sue
