Robert Duboc Obituary

Robert "Bob" Duboc
September 1, 1927 - July 6, 2023
Kansas City, Missouri - Robert "Bob" Duboc, a true gentleman, devoted father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on July 6, 2023. Bob will be especially remembered as a man of integrity, and for his kindness and compassion for everyone. He lived modestly while doing all he could do to contribute to the growth of his children and grandchildren.
Bob was born September 1, 1927, in Fort Scott, KS, and attended Border Star Elementary and Southwest High School in Kansas City. As a junior in high school, he transferred and graduated from Culver Military Academy, Culver, Indiana. He then joined the Marines and entered training in San Diego, just as WWII was entering its final phase. Bob went on to graduate from the University of Kansas in mathematics, making lifelong friends, especially his Sigma Chi brothers. After graduating from Michigan Law School, he joined the Swanson, Midgley firm in Kansas City, retiring as a partner.
In his 40's, he bought a farm that had been unattended for many years, and turned it into a productive cattle farm, commuting from Kansas City to Butler, Missouri. His children love to tell the story of the day he brought home a newborn calf rejected by its mother to raise in the family garage until it was strong enough to live on its own. Both cattle farming and arc welding became more than hobbies along the way.
Throughout his life Bob had a passion for music and a keen sense of rhythm, playing the drums, the piano, and the vibraphone. His drumming skills earned him the nickname "Drums Duboc." Bob passed his love for both music and sports on to his kids, sharing adventures with them canoeing Missouri rivers and exploring the Canadian boundary waters. He was a lifelong swimmer and a lifelong member of Mission Hills Country Club, swimming every day until he was 90 years old. He cherished the friends he made at the Swinney Recreation Center during his early morning swims as well.
Above all, Bob was in every way committed to his five children: Karen Calvin (Garry) Robert Duboc Jr., (Lee), Susan Duboc (Robert Haddick), Ann Sweeney (Dan) and Carol Duboc (Tim Voorhees); his nine grandchildren; and his seventeen great grandchildren, as well as his ex-wife Nancy Duboc. Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Charles A. Duboc, and parents Ray B. and Fern Miller Duboc – and his enduring love and admiration for them is replicated in his family's thoughts and prayers for him.
Bob and his family want to thank Bernie, Kimberly, Lee, Michelle, Denise, Carol, Bryan and all the caregivers from Bright Star Care, for their kindness and support. We would also like to thank Lisa and Kristi and all the incredible people with Saint Luke's Hospice.
A private family service will be held for Bob at Mt. Moriah Cemetery September 3rd, 2023. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob's name to The Saint Luke's Foundation or The Williams Education Fund at the University of Kansas, or to the charity of your choice.
