Ronald Mays Obituary

Ronald Hugh Mays, 73, of Independence, MO, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2002, at Independence Regional Health Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Speaks Midtown Chapel; burial in Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Ron was born February 16, 1929, in Pleasanton, KS, to Oscar Hugh & Bernice (Rogers) Mays. He was Data Processing Director for the Kansas City, MO, School District for 30 years before retiring in 1989. He and his wife, Carol Jean, then owned and operated Jerry's Restaurant in the Fairmont area of Independence. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army. He was a member of the Eureka Masonic Lodge in Pleasanton, KS, the Fairmont Commercial Club, served on the board for the Kansas City Teachers Credit Union and was a member of the Northern Boulevard United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carol (Austin) Mays of the home; two daughters, Terri Mayeaux of Lee's Summit, MO, and Melanie Mays of New York, NY; a son, Hugh Mays of Independence; a granddaughter, Jessica Mayeaux, and son-in-law, Dennis Mayeaux of Lee's Summit, MO; and a nephew, Glenn H. Duffy III of North Carolina. Memorials to the Linn County, KS, Historical Society. (Arrangements: Speaks Midtown Chapel)
