RUTH J. RAW

Ruth J. Raw, of Shawnee, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, March 14, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 15, at the chapel, with burial following in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Cancer Action, 10520 Barkley St., # 100, Overland Park, KS 66212- 1855. Ruth was born July 11, 1933 in Denver, Colorado, to the late John R. and Olive M. Barber. Ruth graduated Magna Cum Laude from Sterling College with a degree in English and History. Ruth married Frank E. "Corky" Raw June 29, 1956 in Kansas City, KS. He preceded her in death on January 6, 2001 after 44 years of marriage. Her greatest joy was her family. Ruth loved the outdoors and spending time with family at the lake. She enjoyed tending to her gardens, particularly her roses. She loved gathering with her family on holidays, especially Christmas. Ruth is also preceded in death by her grandson, David M. Raw, and her brother, Bob Barber. She is survived by her children: Rhonda Raw, of Shawnee; Mark (Janet) Raw, of Rose Hill, KS; Alison (Jim) Kernicky, of Boiling Springs, NC; Gerald (Ann) Raw, of Linwood, KS; a sister, Edwynna Curry, of Portage, WI; and brothers, Jack Barber, of Lenexa, KS, and Paul Barber, of Prairie Village, KS.
