Smith Goetting

Smith Goetting, 90, of Norborne, MO, died Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at his home. Mr. Goetting was born April 18, 1917 in Norborne to Walter William and Rosa Mary (Smith) Goetting. He married Judith Ann Wegeng on April 14, 1956; she survives, of the home. Other survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Anthony Thomas and Judy Goetting of Lawrence, KS, and Steven Dennis and Kristin Goetting of Shawnee, KS; two daughters and sons- in-law, Mary Paula and James Minesky of Bellefonte, PA, and Anne Cecile and Kenneth Moberg; five grandchildren, Kaitlyn Marie Goetting, Cameron Moberg, Samantha Goetting, Phoebe Moberg and Tatum Goetting; and a step-grandson, Brandon Elliott. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte, who died in infancy, and Mary Evelyn Goetting. Mr. Goetting was a 1935 graduate of Norborne High School. In 1937, he became an employee of the United States Postal Service at Norborne, until entering the United States Naval Reserve on March 24, 1942. He was aboard the aircraft carrier, THE SAIDOR, which was located in the Pacific Ocean. Receiving his honorable discharge on February 11, 1946, he returned to his former position at the Norborne Post Office. In 1952 he became a rural route mail carrier until his retirement in 1976. He was a lifetime member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norborne. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Norborne or the Ray County Home Health. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Norborne, MO. Rosary will be recited prior to the funeral service at 10:15 a.m. at the church.
