Susan Webb

June 27, 2024

Colorado Springs, Colorado - Susan Webb (née Chappell), 67, passed away peacefully at home on June 27, 2024, in Colorado Springs, surrounded by family. Susan Leona Chappell was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1957 to Carl and Leona Chappell.

When Susan was 5, her family moved to Prairie Village, Kansas. She attended Prairie Elementary, Indian Hills Middle, and Shawnee Mission East High School (Class of '75). Susan earned a bachelor's degree from Kansas State University in 1982. Susan and Doug Webb met at K-State. They were married in 1981.

Susan enjoyed watercolor painting and playing the piano. She started piano lessons as a child and enjoyed playing the piano throughout her life. She also studied piano at the UMKC conservatory of music. In the early 2000s, Susan balanced raising teenagers and caring for her elderly parents. She began volunteering at the Village Church Food Pantry during this time.

In 2013, Susan became the Village Church Food Pantry Director. She valued service and respect for all clients and volunteers. She brought faith and hope to the pantry and improved its operations. Susan was loved and respected by many. Her presence and kind words touched countless lives. She always saw the good in people and never met a stranger. She would often remind her children, "everyone is doing the best they can". Susan retired in 2022.

In January 2020, Susan was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer. She did everything she could to live as long as possible. Susan is survived by husband Doug; her children, Laura (Matthew) Starks and David (Virginia) Webb; her sister, Carol (Bruce) Jordan; her brother, Paul (Brenda) Chappell; and her grandchildren, Oliver and Charlie Ann Starks.

On Friday, July 26, 2024, at 1 p.m., there will be a memorial service to celebrate Susan's life. It will be held at the Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Rd., Prairie Village, KS. There will be a reception afterwards in Friendship Hall.

I first met Susan at the Food Pantry when I started volunteering there. I couldn't get over how gracious she was and one of the nicest kindest people I had ever met. So very sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
