Tom was born in Hammond, IN on October 25, 1962. He was raised in Northbrook, IL, and graduated from Glenbrook North High School. Tom graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and worked on the NASA Satellite Operations at the University. After graduation, Tom worked at Boeing in Seattle, WA. Tom married the love of his life, the former Mary Huxtable of Prairie Village, on October 11, 1986. Tom and Mary then returned to Kansas City where Tom began his career in the investment field. He worked for Security Bank, Country Club Bank and Gold Capital Management. Tom's community service was extensive. He served on the American Royal Board of Governors, spent many years working with youth in Junior Achievement, served as treasurer on the board of Hands and Hearts for Children, was on the greeting committee at St. Ann's and served with Catholic Charities on the Snow Ball fundraising committee. Tom is survived by his wife of 16 years, Mary Huxtable Keaveny, and four children, Elizabeth Ann, age 12, Thomas Leo IV, age 10, Kathleen Ann, age 8 and Joseph Donald, age 4, all of the home; parents, Tom and Colleen Keaveny, Northbrook, IL; sister, Martha Bradt and husband, Rick, Rye, NY; brother, Chris Keaveny and wife, Mary, Madison, WI; parents-in-law, Don and Marge Huxtable, Prairie Village, KS; brother-in-law, Phil Huxtable, Fredericksburg, VA; sister-inlaw, Carol Maggio and husband, Mark, Leawood, KS; brother-in-law, Jim Huxtable and wife, Lisa, Leawood, KS; and sister-in-law, Julia Rebein and husband, Mark, Kansas City, MO; and 13 nieces and nephews. Tom loved life and lived it as largely and fully as possible even before he became ill. He often told Mary in their 20 years together, "I love my life!" and he wasted not one minute getting the most life had to offer. Tom loved fishing, the outdoors, mountains, waterskiing, snowskiing and canoeing. The activity that was his pride and joy was coaching boys soccer at St. Ann's. Tom had such a keen mind and loved to debate any topic. He was politically astute, spending time writing to any and all politicians explaining his opinions. Tom's energy level is legendary and he was most often the one who got people moving and exploring the big things in our world and even the most trivial. He truly had a zest that was contagious and unmatched. The most important component of Tom's life and truly his defining characteristic was his love for his family. Tom was the sweetest husband to Mary and greatest Dad to his four beautiful children. His role as son and brother was without equal. Throughout this past year as Tom fought cancer, he demonstrated his unbelievable courage and provided inspiration to so many who followed his progress. Tom was blessed with hundreds of friends, all of whom consider themselves fortunate to have Tom Keaveny as a friend. His great laugh and positive outlook helped see him through this battle. Tom's faith in God grew so much during his illness and he felt blessed by the outpouring of support from family, friends and the community. (Arrangements: McGilley State Line Chapel (816) 9426180)
