Tunisia Abdullah Koonce

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Tunisia Tunis Abdullah Koonce, 38, of 925 East Wells St., died Wednes-day, Oct. 7, 2009, at Columbia St. Mary's, Columbia Campus Hospital.

She was a graduate of New Bern High School Class of 1989 and UNC-Charlotte Class of 1993. She was a manager of Marshall's and Ross retail stores.

The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority ritualistic service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at Oscar's Memorial Chapel, 1700 Oscar Drive, New Bern, followed by receiving of friends until 7 p.m.

Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at St. Peter's A.M.E. Zion Church, 617 Queen St., New Bern, with the Rev. William L. Wainwright and the Rev. R. E. Midgette Sr. fficiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, George E. Koonce Jr., one son, George Paup Koonce, and one daughter, Jayla Koonce, all of Milwaukee, Wis.; her mother, Shirlene C. Abdullah of New Bern; her father, Lemuel Abdullah Sr. of Maryland; three brothers, Lemuel Abdullah Jr. of Morrisville, Hiram Abdullah of Lawrenceville and Rashad Abdullah of Mooresville; and her grandparents, Chirley and Marian Chapman of New Bern.

The family will receive friends at the residence of her mother, 2303 Woodland Ave.

The viewing hours will be from 1:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at Oscar's Mortuary.
