VELMA HOPKINS Obituary

VELMA DEAN HOPKINS Velma Dean Hopkins, age 92, of Mountain View, California, passed away on Saturday, November 18th, 2017. Velma was born in Lee's Summit, Missouri on December 1st, 1924 to Robert Orman Wright and Basha Blanche Lunnam. Velma's mother passed away when she was only seven years old. Her father remarried February 1st, 1933 to Grace Louise Chapman. Louise was a wonderful mother. Velma referred to her as her angel. Velma graduated from Lee's Summit High School in 1942, where she met the love of her life, Elston Russell Hopkins. Elston and Velma celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on August 5th, 2017. Velma worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 34 years. Velma loved God and Jesus, her family and her friends. She made thousands of pocket crosses and gave them to people she met in church, on airplanes, in grocery stores, in the hospital, and where ever she went. She consistently prayed for her family, her friends and whoever had a need for prayer. She kept a journal of who she prayed for and would write in her journal when prayers were answered. Velma was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Louise Bellemeur who died on March 17th, 2009 from lung cancer. Velma Dean is survived by her loving husband, Elston Russell Hopkins, her daughter, Deanna Lynn Opstedal and husband Alan, her son-in-law, Gregg Bellemeur, three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She will be missed by many, and will forever be remembered and loved. At her request, Dean has been cremated and a service will be planned for a later date.
