William Murphy Obituary

William G. "Bill" Murphy, Sr. William G. Murphy Sr., 59, of Kansas City, MO, was called to his heavenly father on July 27, 2020. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11 am Monday, August 3rd at St. Pius X in Mission, KS followed by a celebration of life at 11 am. Bill lived life to the absolute fullest every single day. He was an inspiration to everyone around him. He lived for his children and grandchildren, as they were his absolute pride and joy. He is the best person any of us have ever met. Any problem, big or small, he was there to help you. He was pretty much all over the place all of the time. You won't meet a funnier or more fun person. You could end up in a fight with him, then you would be hugging him the next day. Unique doesn't even begin to describe Bill. His influence on our small world was wide, and it was always positive. He had endless energy and endless love, and he will always be with us. Bill was born on December 30, 1960 in Greeley, CO to Jeremiah and Patricia Murphy. He is survived by his wife Mary; his wife Mary; his children and grandchildren, William Jr. (Taylor), and William III; John (Cody), Ruby and Cash; Robert Appelbaum (David); Margaret; Alison, Isaac, Elijah; Caroline (Richard), Scarlett, Hazel; his parents; siblings, Tim, Kathy (Bernie), Beth (Mark), Marty, Joe (Rosie), Bob (Heather), Maureen (Juan) and Andy; 41 nieces and nephews; 25 great-nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, Bill would say to keep your money, but feel free to donate to the American Heart Association. The obituary in its entirety can be viewed at www.muehlebachchapel.com

The Bill I knew from Miege and from then on, was a funny, happy and friendly guy with a smile on his face that would light up when you mentioned his family. Hi family meant everything to him and it showed. He was good friends with my older brother and their friendship lasted all through high school until the day Bill sadly passed. I am so sorry I could not attend the services, but just watched the video, and it was so beautiful. It made me laugh and cry. I wish I could have seen the dove release - how touching a finale. To the entire Murphy clan, my deepest, sincerest condolences on your loss and heaven's gain.

In your hands, O Lord,
we humbly entrust our brothers and sisters.
In this life you embraced them with your tender love;
deliver them now from every evil
and bid them eternal rest.

The old order has passed away:
welcome them into paradise,
where there will be no sorrow, no weeping or pain,
but fullness of peace and joy
with your Son and the Holy Spirit
forever and ever.

Amen.

When I think about Billy Murphy, I see his smile. Sometimes goofy, sometimes mischievous, sometimes proud, but always a smile. He was a friend to all he met, never knowing a stranger. He fiercely loved his children and grandchildren, a devoted son and brother. Today I laughed and I cried as I witnessed those that loved him most, share stories and memories in a most beautiful service. With much love, respect and gratitude, to all the Murphy’s, I send my deepest condolences. Billy, May you soar with the angels and forever fly free

I am so, so sorry for the loss of Bill. He was a good guy and very much loved, especially by my son, his brother, Andy Eckenroed. Bill extended his hand and cheerfully, and happily accepted Andy and had the heart of a giant. I can’t begin to imagine how hard this hurts all of your hearts. I pray you will be able to feel/find peace and comfort. Much love to your family. Helen Sharkey Eckenroed.

My mom, Arlene Davis wanted me to say from her, "I've never seen Bill without that bit grin"...and I agree! That huge ear to ear grin that said, "it's so good to see you" that made you feel so special and so very happy! He had that way about him. Bill was Godfather to one of my children, and even tho they didn't see each other often, he always wanted to know how she was doing, what she was doing, and that he continued to pray for her daily. That meant a lot to her, and me.
I will miss hearing his voicemails announcing the birth of yet, another grand baby! He was so equally overblown with happiness with each one and never stopped expressing his love and pride for his children. He will be so missed by so many. May we all learn to focus on the simple and happy things about our lives, just like good ole Bill!

Had a couple great conversations with Bill when we ran into each other at various places in RP or Mission over the years. I always asked about his kids, and especially the kids that Ann and I were fortunate enough to watch grow up; Bobby, Molly and Allie. Bill always beamed when talking about his kids. No words can express my sorrow for all you guys. Just know our front porch is unconditionally open with a cup of coffee and an open ear for any Murphy who wants to stop by. We’d be honored.

My Uncle Bill, what a great example you were to us all. You loved and supported each of your children through thick and thin, I know they are hurting and missing you deeply. A couple months ago the week before Covid hit, we ran into each other at Sun Fresh. I had the kids with me and you got to meet Cooper for the first time. Of course you were joking around with Harper. We talked for what felt like 30 minutes there in the meat section. You had the night to yourself and was going to treat yourself to a nice Lobster tail, you deserved it. During checkout I looked behind me and there you were, with your big grin waving goodbye. I will always cherish that. I love you & can’t wait to see that grin again. My love & support goes to your children, grandchildren, Mary, Papa, Grammy, and your siblings.

Murphy family,
Growing up in Guardian Angels parish was where I’ve met some of my life long friends, Billy Murphy was one of them. We often would see each other as we both landed in Mission and St Pius to raise our families. Hearing that he passed away is just unbelievable, leaves you kind of speechless. We would always run into each other and the smile he would have talking of his kids and grandkids was just one of such a proud man. He was just a guy I’ll never forget and our prayers and support to his family with this huge loss.

Leaving me speechless. There will be a lot less smiles on earth without Billy here. Always touched our hearts with funny yet caring words. He definitely did it "His way".... somewhere between Sinatra n Jerry Lewis. You've won your final championship. Miss n love ya brother. RIP
