Wilma Phelps Obituary

Wilma Marie Phelps, 72, of Grandview, MO, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at her home. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2004, at Muehlebach Funeral Home, 6800 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Muehlebach Funeral Home. Interment will be at Green Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Kansas City Hospice, 9221 Ward Pkwy., Suite 100, Kansas City, MO 64114. Wilma, known to family and friends as Willie, was born December 18, 1931, to Thomas Raymond and Ruth (Rowley) Edwards in Wolf Lake, IL. She lived most of her life in the Kansas City area and was a 1949 graduate of Westport High School. Willie was a devoted wife and mother. She was a longtime member of the former Marlborough Baptist Church, Kansas City, MO, and recently attended the First Baptist Church, Grandview, MO. After raising her three children, she worked for Catholic Charities' in-home support services. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, baking and stained glass. Willie was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Roy L. Phelps, Jr., of the home; one son, Dale E. Phelps and his wife, Julie Kramer of University Place, WA; two daughters, Donna E. Phelps and her husband, John Huff of London, England, Deloris E. Nedblake of Kansas City, MO; her mother, Ruth Edwards of Wellsville, MO; two sisters, Juanita Hovendick of Lincoln, MO, Pearl See of Montgomery City, MO; one brother, Robert Edwards of Wellsville, MO; three grandchildren, Ann Huff of London, England, Alexandra and Ian Nedblake of Kansas City, MO. I just read Dale's eulogy and marvel at what a wonderful mother he, Donna and Deloris had. They're the living proof. When I think of "good guys" I know, Dale's always at the top of the list.
