YVONNE GRAYSON Obituary

YVONNE MAYEUX GRAYSON Born 8-08-1928 Died 10-08-2014 Yvonne Delores Mayeux was born on August 8, 1928 in Plaucheville, Louisiana to Sustan and Dosia (Plauche') Mayeux. She attended parochial schools and earned a diploma as a registered nurse from T. E. Schumpert Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana. Yvonne's career included hospital nursing, working as a doctor's assistant in several medical offices, and eventually retired from the Brown-McHardy Clinic in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she was the nursing supervisor. Even after her retirement, Yvonne kept a stethoscope and blood pressure cuff handy. Yvonne was always willing to offer help and medical advice to those in need. Yvonne met the love of her life, Sammy Glen Grayson, in Shreveport. They married in 1950 and celebrated their 50th anniversary with a renewal of their vows surrounded by family and friends. Their children arranged a tour of the Hawaiian Islands afterwards, as a token of their love and gratitude. The couple were active members of St Philip Neri parish in Metairie, Louisiana, and each were honored with the St. Louis Medal for their contributions, time, and talent donated to the parish and diocese. They enjoyed traveling, going out to dinner and playing bridge. Sammy and Yvonne were the proud parents of four children, Margaret Clesi Lanz (Larry) Houston, TX., W. Paul (Paula) Parkville, MO, William Raymond (Liz) Charleston, SC , and Rodney Joseph (Amyanne) Santa Rosa, California. Yvonne's greatest joy was the legacy of her beloved grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Her grandchildren include Mary Clesi Tilley (Russell), Sara Clesi Prather (Mike) and John Clesi, III, Huntsville, TX; Alaina Grayson Tucker (Craig), Chicago, IL, Benton Grayson (Arlisa), Parkville, MO, and Rachel Grayson Heaps (David), Biloxi, MS. Her great-grandchildren are, Veronica, Clesi, and Grayson Tilley, Houston; Jonah and Caleb Grayson, Parkville, Lucy and Dorthy Grayson, Huntsville; Rosalind and Nikolai Tucker, Chicago; and John Joseph Prather, Houston. Yvonne was proud of her Cajun heritage and shared her zest for life and wicked sense of humor at every opportunity. She was an excellent cook and loved using her talents and creativity to knit, crochet, and construct lovely smocked and embroidered dresses and rompers for her grandchildren that have become cherished heirlooms, now worn by her great grandchildren with much pride. She moved to the Kansas City area in 2002 and enjoyed going out for dinner, shopping, crafts, and particularly liked going on "joy rides" around the city to view the lovely fall trees and Christmas lights. Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, husband Sammy, and siblings, Godfrey, Rodney, and Sherril Mayeux, of Plaucheville, and Mercedes Mayeux Lemoine, Lake Charles, Louisiana. A memorial service will be held at St Therese's parish, Parkville, MO on Saturday November 15th. Visitation with the family will begin at 09:30 at the church, followed by mass at 10:30. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to St. Therese's building fund. Arrangements Cremation Society of KS and MO, 5561 NW Barry Rd. (816) 822- 9888 C

I am sorry to hear of your mother's death. I do not know you, but your mother was my father's 1st cousin. His name was Myron Parr, the son of Agatha Mayeaux who was your grandfather's sister. I remember your grandfather and especially the Civil War cannon in his yard.

Yvonne was the nurse at our pediatrician's office, as well as a fellow member of St. Philip. We knew Sammy, who carpooled with my husband to work at SCB, and Yvonne very well and thought they were both lovely people. I saw Yvonne's Cajun nature first hand and enjoyed it so because I am also a Cajun. She was quite a special lady and we join you in mourning her loss.
