Paul Raymond Traubert, 95, died peacefully at his Vi Living residence in Glenview, Illinois on August 30, 2017.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather, professional colleague, and friend, Paul Traubert was born in Wellsburg, West Virginia, to the late George and Grace(Densmore) Traubert on January 20, 192. Born into a hard-working, enterprising and devoted Catholic family of German descent, he attended St. John's Catholic School and graduated from Wellsburg High School. He attended West Virginia University, West Liberty State College, and graduated from the Loyola University School of Dentistry in Chicago in 1950.
Paul Traubert married Rose Evelyn Ambrose of Williams Bay, Wisconsin on June 18, 1949, at St. Benedict Church in Fontana, Wisconsin. They met as student sweethearts preparing for professional health care vocations, he in dentistry and she in nursing.
Dr. Traubert served in the United States Navy during World War II as a medic in the Pacific fleet, and later in the United States Air Force Reserve. He was a partner in a dental practice in St. Charles, Illinois for more than 20 years, and later practiced in Southern Illinois. Dr. Traubert served as president of the St. Charles Park District and on the board of directors of the St. Charles Savings and Loan Association.
Following his retirement from dentistry, Dr. Traubert and his wife, Rose, made their home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they resided for two decades, enjoying canyon walks, cross-country skiing, and Southwestern culture, arts, and nature.
Dr. Traubert was an avid reader, and mastered self-taught reading proficiency in the French and Spanish languages. Friends and neighbors remember him as an affable neighbor and engaging conversation partner, well-versed on world events and history.
He was an accomplished golfer, sailor, cyclist, and advocate of outdoor spaces and parks. He loved theater, chess, Broadway musical scores, classical music, and the art of correspondence. His family will long cherish the festive annual holiday traditions he and his wife established, particularly during the Christmas season, which they shared abundantly.
Dr. Traubert is survived by Rose, his loving wife of 68 years; and his children, Dennis Traubert of Roanoke, Virginia; Nancy Cassel of Thousand Oaks, California; Dr. Bryan Traubert (Penny Pritzker) of Chicago, Illinois; and Kerry Traubert Raevuori (John), of Atlanta, Georgia. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael Cassel (Kim) and David Cassel; Ann Traubert-Damanpour (Jamie) and Kate Traubert Kakavoyannis (John); Donald Pritzker Traubert and Rose Pritzker Traubert; and great grandchildren, Benjamin Cassel and Athan Kakavoyannis.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Traubert was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Robbie Cassel; by two brothers, Chester Traubert and Donald Traubert; and by three sisters, Grace Traubert Alexander, Katherine Traubert, and Sister Mary Regis (Gertrude) Traubert.
A private family gathering was held in Chicago to celebrate the life and legacy of Paul Raymond Traubert.

My sincere condolences to your family for the loss of your love one. Please know that God is near to give you the strength to endure and may you take comfort in God's loving promise that he will bring back those we have lost in death-John 5:25-29.

I first remember Paul in his St. Charles, IL. dental practice. He hired me as his assistant. I learned a lot from him, not just dentistry but about living life actively, realistically and fully.
When Paul and Rose moved away from Illinois they'd call my husband, Dick, and me when they returned to town on a visit. We'd enjoy lunch together at the Hotel Baker in downtown St. Charles reminiscing all the while. It was a favorite dining spot of the delightful couple.
Paul was a wonderful letter-writer. In fact, he was the last of my old friends who sent long and typewriter-written letters via snail mail. It was always a treat to receive one.
In May of this year (2017) Paul called me in my Florida home to say "goodbye." He let me know our letter exchange would end due to his poor health. He was at peace with his situation, he said.
I'll miss Paul, his humor and wit, clever descriptions ...learning to play the "penny whistle" ...giving private concerts for Rose ...reporting a recent read in Spanish or French, some historical novels, etc.
Paul once sent a couple of new friends from his residence home to see me in Florida because he thought we'd enjoy one another's company. We did.
Dr. Paul R. Traubert was an excellent dentist, a good friend and wonderful correspondent. He will certainly be missed. I send my fondest condolences to family members ... some of whom I remember from the time of their early childhood. Janet (Supitilov) Vanthournout
