Rose Ambrose Traubert
Born: June 25, 1927 in Williams Bay, WI
Died: November 28, 2021 in Glenview, IL
Beloved by family and friends for her fun-loving spirit, high energy, and sense of adventure, Rose Ambrose Traubert had a distinctive gift for hospitality—creating beautiful settings and moments to be shared with the people she loved.
Whether planning a holiday celebration, exploring the outdoors, introducing her children to theatre and the arts, or caring for patients, Rose embodied enthusiasm, tenacity, and sacrifice. She was a caring mother, a hard-working nurse, a good neighbor, and a devoted wife.
Rose was born on June 25, 1927, in Williams Bay, Wisconsin to Joseph and Frances Ambrose. She had five sisters and one brother. Rose loved swimming and fishing in Lake Geneva, playing basketball and sports of all kinds, singing in her school and church choirs, and worshiping at First Congregational Church of Williams Bay, where she was confirmed.
Rose graduated from Williams Bay High School and later from the Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. During World War II, she volunteered in the war effort as a worker in a munitions factory and with the American Red Cross.
In 1949, she married Paul Raymond Traubert of Wellsburg, West Virginia at St. Patrick's Church in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. The couple made their early home in Chicago's Lincoln Park and later moved to St. Charles, Illinois, where Rose worked at Delnor Hospital and in private medical practices. Medical and nursing colleagues recall her professionalism and commitment to excellence.
Upon her husband's retirement from dentistry, the couple moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where they explored the natural beauty, arts, and culture of the Southwest.
As a gracious hostess and excellent cook, Rose sparkled with a talent for entertaining. Holiday celebrations in her home were bright, warm, and beautiful. She shared her love of theatre, music, nature, and sports with her children. Rose loved to sing and is fondly remembered for her renditions of "Sentimental Journey" and "Over the Rainbow." Her trademark expression was, "Isn't this fun?!"
Rose was a devoted Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bulls fan and enjoyed family outings to Wrigley Field into her 80s. As a grandmother, Rose was always ready to share holidays, hiking, baseball, fishing, shopping, and New Mexico green chile dip at family reunions.
Rose died on November 28, 2021, in Glenview, Illinois. She is survived by her four children, Dennis, Nancy, Bryan (Penny Pritzker), and Kerry (John Raevuori); six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. Traubert; Robbie Cassel, a beloved grandson; and her six siblings.
Rose Ambrose Traubert will be honored at a private family memorial service. Contributions in her memory may be made to the
American Cancer Society.
