Russell M. Reid

Born: June 24, 1945; in Chicago, IL

Died: Jan. 1, 2015; in Maywood, IL

Russell McClure Reid, 69, of Batavia, IL, formerly of Oklahoma passed away Thursday, January 1, 2015, at Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital in Maywood, IL.

Russell was born in Chicago on June 24, 1945, to Elizabeth and Archie Reid. He graduated from Wheaton High School in 1963, served in the Marines during the Vietnam War, and later graduated from Northeastern State University in Oklahoma.

Prior to moving to Oklahoma, Russell worked as an Illinois State Trooper. While in Oklahoma, he worked as a sales representative for Pitney Bowes and Country Companies and was a volunteer for the Tahlequah Area Habitat for Humanity. In 2009 he began serving as a board member and was twice elected president of Habitat in 2010 and 2011. He was very involved in the building of homes for Habitat clients and was instrumental in establishing the first permanent office space for the Tahlequah Area Habitat which is its current location. Prior to serving as a board member and President, Russell was a long-time volunteer and member of the Building Committee for Habitat. He was very proud of his team and their achievements and much loved by them.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Charles Reid.

He is survived by Penny Reid of Batavia; his son, Russell "Chip" Reid of Chicago; his daughter, Christine "Chris" (Ken) Japlon of Geneva; his daughter, Katherine "Kathy" Reid of Chicago; three granddaughters, Lilly, Annie, and Georgia Japlon of Geneva; his brother, Duncan Reid of Rock Island, IL; and his cousin, Elizabeth "Liz" Haythorne of Geneva.

A Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 8, 2015, at Wheaton Cemetery, Wheaton, IL.
