OPELOUSAS - Funeral services for Mr. Stephen Edward Hargroder, age 49, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Landry Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park. Father Paul Bienvenu will celebrate the Mass. The Readings will be done by Joanie Hargroder and Ashley Allemond. The gifts will be presented by Charlotte Nezat and Didier "T-Boy" Hargroder. Eulogy will be done by Mrs. Betty Wolfe. Stephen was a native and a long-time resident of Opelousas. He died on Sunday, January 19, 2014, at Opelousas General Health System. He was a hairstylist for over 31 years and made everyone feel good about "the way they look". He enjoyed spending time visiting with family, two wonderful cousins, and many friends.

In his free time, he loved cooking and working with plants. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include brothers, Richard "Dick" Kennison and wife, Fran of Sulphur; Johnny Hargroder and wife, Jackie of Port Barre; Didier "T-Boy" Hargroder and wife, Rita of Opelousas; Tommy Hargroder and wife, Jacqueline "Jackie" of Opelousas; Randy Kennison of Port Barre; Rickie Hargroder and wife, Judie of Omaha, Nebraska; and Gary Hargroder of Port Barre; sisters, Beryl Stoute and husband, Wesley of Port Barre; Charlotte Nezat and husband, Ricky of Port Barre; Brenda Higdon and husband, Glen of Port Barre; and Roxanne Kennison of Gainesville, Georgia; special friend, Charlie Roy of Opelousas; godchildren, Ashley Deshotel, Chassidy Dugas, Balley Riddle, and Joanie Hargroder; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Antoine Hilton "A. H." Hargroder, Jr. and Loretta Mae Wheaton Hargroder; and R. J. Kennison and Joyce Chautin Kennison; grandparents; two sisters, Priscilla "Pris" Soileau and Robin Kennison; nephew, Jamie Hargroder; and cousins, Terry Soileau and Danny Willingham. Pallbearers will be Johnny Hargroder, Tommy Hargroder, Didier "T-Boy" Hargroder, Randy Kennison, Rickie Hargroder, and Gary Hargroder. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charlie Roy, Blake Hargroder, and Patsy Bullara. Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, beginning at 11 a.m. with an all-night wake until 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. A Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening in the funeral home.
