Stephen Sowinski Obituary

MUNDELEIN- Funeral service for Stephen J. Sowinski, 50, of Mundelein and formerly of Morton Grove, will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 18, at Kristan Funeral Home P.C., 219 W. Maple Ave., (two blocks west of Route 45 on Route 176), Mundelein. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until the services at the funeral home.

He was born April 15, 1959, in Evanston, to Patricia and Edward Sowinski Sr., and passed away Tuesday July 14, 2009.

Stephen was a devoted husband, a loving father and a dear son and beloved brother. He met the love of his life, Cindy, and was united in marriage on Oct. 28, 1983. They made their home in Mundelein and have gained a large family of friends. Throughout the years, many family and friends were welcomed into his heart as well as his home to stay while they "got back on their feet." Stephen brought joy to many people and leaves behind a legacy of friends. He was an avid year-round fisherman who was always seeking the "Elusive Walleye."

Stephen is survived by his devoted mother, Patricia Sowinski; loving wife of 25 years, Cindy; his children, Jennifer (Thomas) and Matthew (Kayla); his step-son, Scott Golding; his brothers, Edward "Butch" Jr. and Daniel (Patricia); his sisters, Barbara (Mark) Martin and Judy (Scott Verdich); his beloved father- and mother-in-law, Norman and Kathy Hawbaker of Elburn; his sisters-in-law, Doris (Tim) Klomhaus and Terry (Dave) Lamb; and his brothers-in-law, Clarence (Ida) Kruthoff, Karl (Sally) Kruthoff, Larry (Lupe) Kruthoff and Jeff (Terri) Hawbaker. Steve was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Sowinski Sr., and his brother, Michael.
