Howard Terry Obituary
On August 24, 2025, Howard Eugene Terry passed peacefully surrounded by love and care at Madrone Hospice House in Yreka. He was 98 years old and had spent much of his long, remarkable life as a beloved resident of Siskiyou County.
Howard was born on April 8, 1927, in Hinkley, Utah, to George and Sarah Terry. He grew up in a large
family with eight brothers and sisters, all of whom preceded him in death.
In 1990, Howard married Deanne (Brenneman) Terry, and together they shared 35 years lled with love, devotion, laughter, and family. Howard is survived by Deanne, his children Terri Ann Terry and Howard Jr. of Los Angeles, and Deanne's daughters Danica (Ray) Bowman and Debra Sims of Montague. He was the proud grandfather of Emma Leigh, Thomas David, Andrew Kenneth, and Ethan Howard, and he also leaves behind nieces, nephews, friends, family and the pets he adored.
As a young man, he proudly joined the military and served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. After his service, he built a career as a machinist, a profession that suited his sharp mind and gifted hands.
Howard's engineering mind and creative spirit shaped nearly everything he touched. He rebuilt aircraft, car engines, crafted custom thread-rolling dies, tools and equipment, maintained his home and orchards – everything from his professional work or his personal projects, it carried Howard's signature touch of precision and ingenuity.
Howard loved hunting and shing. Perhaps his most cherished hunting location was at "The Oaks" south of Ensenada Mexico. He shared this location with only a select few. During his aerospace career, he became acquainted with Bob Jacobson, who also was hunting in Mexico at the same time. They became lifelong friends spanning decades and shared 20+ years of hunting at what they called "Quail Heaven" at The Oaks.
Those who knew Howard remember his dry humor, his love of storytelling, especially about his Navy days-and his endless curiosity about guns. He read widely, listened to music of all kinds, and could hold a thoughtful conversation on almost any subject. Howard was happiest when busy, never one to let idle time slip by.
Howard was deeply grateful for the care of two wonderful caregivers whose visits brightened his days, and for the extraordinary kindness shown by the team at Madrone Hospice House in his nal weeks. His family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to them all.
Howard will be laid to rest in his family plot in Newhall, California. A Celebration of Howard's life will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 1:00–4:00 p.m. at the Yreka Masonic Lodge. Friends and family are warmly invited to gather, share memories, and enjoy light refreshments in his honor.
In remembrance of Howard, the family asks you to consider a contribution to the Fairchild Medical Foundation in his memory.
