James Maloney

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that James Joseph Maloney passed away peacefully on July 4th, 2025 in Grants Pass, OR. James was born on May 24, 1942 in Duluth, MN. He lived the first 4 1/2 years of his life at the Saint James Home for Orphans. He was adopted by Vertin and Mae Maloney of Cohasset, MN in 1947. James is survived by his sons, Justin, Austin and Mason Maloney, his Daughter Savannah Maloney, as well as 8 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. James graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1960, and soon after, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served as an Air Traffic Controller in France until his honorable discharge in 1964. After leaving the Air Force, Jim worked his way through college at Cal State Long Beach, where he earned a B.A. in Industrial Arts, Education with a minor in Art with teaching credentials in 1968. Upon graduating, Jim continued on as a lecturer at Cal State Long Beach, then as a shop teacher at Troy High School in Fullerton, CA. In 1972, James ventured away from teaching, and became a well-respected craftsman, cabinet maker and contractor until a debilitating stroke in 2020 left him unable to continue working. James was a lifelong servant of Jesus Christ and lived his beliefs. He was known for his selflessness, generosity and integrity. Whatever he had, he gladly shared with any in need. In addition to his 4 children, he took in several foster children, including sponsoring an orphan from Mexico to assist her in getting lifesaving heart surgery. Throughout his life, Jim volunteered his time on numerous construction projects to benefit an orphanage in Mexico, as well as trips to Haiti and New Orleans to help hurricane victims. Through his faith, generosity and selflessness, James leaves behind a legacy of a life well lived, with many loving friends and family. A memorial service will be held on September 4, 2025 at 2 P.M. at the Eagle Point National Cemetery, immediately followed by a celebration of James' life at Touvelle Park. All who knew James are welcome and invited to come celebrate his life.
